My Pet Ellis - by Tiki Cat

Missing image
MY PET ELLIS
A poem of Tiki Cat,
The Magnificent

Snow wants a poem on envy.
I know where there is plenty.
Plenty of envy: the story of Ellis
And why of me he is so jealous!

Ellis Elkins is my pet.
I often take him to the vet
To brush out his disheveled hair
And scrub the places that are bare.

He never takes a bath you see,
Never licks himself like me.
He dishes dirt on the phone.
All he does is moan and groan.

It's not possible to make him purr.
He just sits and will not stir
Staring at TV while writing.
It is definitely frightening!

Ellis is a special case,
Upsets the whole human race.
Like me, he takes real long naps.
He should be a cat perhaps.

When he wakes, he seems to squint.
Like his energy is spent,
While I run around and play
He sits down and writes all day.

I run from what he writes.
When I try to help he bites.
He may even claim outright
That he wrote this; that's not right.

I am sure you can now see
Why my Ellis envies me.
This shows what jealousy is.
In case Snow gives a quiz!

“Roses are red; violets are blue,”
If Ellis says it, it isn’t true.
He is just a tired old man.
I do for him what I can.

I often find my toys broken
The words "I'm sorry" never spoken
Even then I do forgive him
Cause the poor man just can’t win.

Just be glad you poetry writers
Spinning your webs like the spiders
That I don't read what you write
And show you how to do it right.

Tiki Cat,
Poet Laureate of the Cat Community

    OH that is sooo cute!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and it brought a big grin across my face; which no poem I have read in a while has. This was very clever; writing a poem from the perspective of your cat on you. What a brilliant piece of work. KUDOS to you and Tiki Cat. Or should I say; KUDOS to TIKI CAT for the masterpiece!

    Catastrophic!

    Nadine can but agree
    'cause yours is a cats view;
    cats on a verbiage spree
    have better things to do!

  • very good

your poem is talently written and your cat is cute. I now want to write about my Pappilon dog Poppy who is such a loving joy to me.

  • I loved this poem and your cat is so cute. I have a dog that is smaller than your cat. He is like my baby. I should write a poem about him as he is the most precious 10 lb Pappillon with one black ear and one white. He is mostly all white except for his black tail. I admire anyone who writes about their pet in such a beautiful and talented way..

Oh, there is some rich stuff here, indeed! The whole poem made me smile most broadly with stanzas like this:

He never takes a bath you see,
    Never licks himself like me.
He dishes dirt on the phone.
All he does is moan and groan.

No question, this poem--no matter who wrote it!--is a ton of fun!!

Love Tiki Cat, reminded me of the wreath I wrote for this most noble of cats.

    http://allpoetry.com/poem/2935392

Tiki cat sitting in the shade,
Shadows of birds fly to the ground,
Groundless reason to make a trade,
Trader of dreams Tiki will hound,
Hound dog through the picket fence,
    Fencing claws Tiki proudly shows,
Show-off cat pricks that dog so dense,
Denser puffs up that canine nose,
Noisy purr of Tiki cat claim,
Claimant dog snarls at this display,
Displayed teeth is that pooch’s game,
    Gamely Tiki just struts away.

Good to read your poems, Ellis!

  • if this is the cutest piece, i don't know what is.
this made me smile from start to finish.
i have never been a cat person, but even i
would fall for this cat. he tells a great story.
    very well done, my friend

that is cute. i really like cats and the idea is definetly good. but line 9 and tten are kind of awkward. the poem is cute, it made me laugh. i would revise line 9 and ten but otherwise keep it as it is!!!! the title is nice and clear but it does not give anything away. again, i wold rephrase line 9 and 10; but KEEP WRITING!!!

  • I'm sure youe're a dab at poetry

And you say: "I am sure you can now see Why my Ellis envies me." We the poet friend of yours might envy yet "This shows" not what jealousy is. The "quiz" is "what is jealousy", ant doesn' be the like!
Liking your lines, thanks a lot!

What a wonderful idea, cat poet. I enjoyed this.

Unfortunately our cat thinks she's a dog. Comes when calls, goes away if we tell her to, stops doing what she's doing when we tell her to, rolls over when asked, isn't allowed in the kitchen so sits in the doorway... fetches a ball... really it's a bit weird.

Love the poem and Tiki Cat! Wish I had a Poet Laureate of the Cat Community in our family. Do you read the mysteries of Shirley R. Murphy and her Joe Gray mysteries? She writes about Irish cats that have the gift of talk and legend says they came out from under famous hills. Anyway Tiki is a sweetie both as a kitten and all grown up.

Nice and cute poem about your pet. Ooops sorry, here's obvious who was the master and who was the cat. I like animals and I have my pet cat and from time to time I wonder who is whose pet. It has a good rhyming scheme and rhythm.
Poem makes me to smile, especially the following verses:
    ~
    Ellis is a special case,
    Upsets the whole human race.
Like me, he takes real long naps.
He should be a cat perhaps.

My Dear Ellis. I just adore your book!! Unfortunately my wife has brought home 2 puppies (Border Collies) which got a hold of it and in their excitement over the feline author, ate my cover. I was wondering if you e-mailed my your snail-mail address and I sent you some money, if you could send me an autographed copy of your book. :-)) Please!?!

PS - don't tell my puppies it's coming.

    Entertaining and Truth

Now I really must agree about cats, but I also have to add ferrets to the mix. Why, they are so smart they read my encyclopedias and think to use my computer! This is such an entertaining write, yet at the same time reveals how envy can take credit where credit is not due: I've worked with a few like that. Best wishes in the contest!

    Love and hugs, B♥nnieQ

    Hi Earl,

I do need an obediant pet!
But Ellis is all I get
Ellis has broke ALL my toys
    Took away all my joys

He wrecked my brand new Cadillac
    Transportation now I lack
And crashed my brand new air-o-plane
    He is driving me insane

I don't know 'bout this contest
Think I'd best give it a rest
Snow is so going to protest
When under the poem she sees the rest

All this stuff; what will she do
Will she judge all this stuff, too
    I don't know, but I know Snow
Will be fair; yes, this is so

    Tiki Cat
    --------------------------------------------
It sounds like you may need a new and more obediant pet, Tiki Cat! LOL!!!!!!! And what kind of toys has that naughty boy (Ellis) been playing with and breakin - now that's what i really want to know - which may be something that you can really sink your fangs and claws into! GOOD LUCK with the contest!
    Peace & Love!
    Earl.

"who exactly is this Tiki Cat?"

I am your most worst nightmare,
A cat that is too much to bear.
I eat guys like you for breakfast
    And consider it a blast!

Young man, I am NOT your Dad --
Or any Grand Dad I've ever had.
    Humans only make me sad.
I'm only Dad to cats, My Lad.

You may post my poems with credit.
I don't know if humans will get it?
But give me credit and they may go
Onto your blog to all to show

I must ask one other thing
From my Author Page you bring
The info on the book I wrote
    Melody, this is no joke.

Post it with the poems you use.
Not that this is any ruse,
Cause all who read it are amused
And find it is the one to choose!

of course we cats are the best,
HUMAN BEINGS ARE JUST A PEST
    from poetry my mistress rests,
FOR THAT I SAY WE ALL ARE BLESSED!
she looks so tired I do declare,
GOT NO ENERGY LEFT TO SPARE?
in rhe shower all pink and bare,
    PARDON ME IF I STARE!
so with paw I write to you,
WITH MINE HERE, I TO YOU, TOO
we'll show Di and Ellis too,
AND ALL HUMANS THAT COME IN VIEW
we cats have much larger brains,
    HUMANS GET ONLY WHAT REMAINS
these mortals send us quite insane,
AND HAVE ONLY THEMSELVES TO BLAME!
and so I send a kiss to you,
THANK YOU SO MUCH; LOVE YOU, TOO
your only Tabatha, loyal and true,
THANK YOU TABATHA, SAME TO YOU!

ps, silly humans we are the poets
KNOWING THAT WOULD INCREASE THEIR FRETS
it's about time they realised that,
YES, THE ONLY REAL POETS ARE CATS
lots and lots of Purrs, Tabatha
YOU'RE THE BEST, RIGHT BACK AT CHA, TIKI CAT

I will just make this assertion:
You ain't gettin what I got!

I have got real writing talents.
You humans beings fall far behind.
Cats here, I hear their assents.
    I would never be unkind...

But why don't you listen to me
And write the way I tell you to?
    Can't you human beings see
All I say is right and true?

I about give up on you
    About to say Toodle-loo.
I can not see you through
When you don't do what I say do.
