Temptation of the glass

Take another sip, and let yourself unwind
Pop another pill, and leave this world behind
Stop hurting her, killing the one you love
Just go home, be taken back up above

The day is closing down and so are you
No one will remember exactly who
Does it matter if you’re not a memory?

Take another drop, and let yourself decay
Pop another tab, and leave this last day
Stop torturing her, she deserves better
Just go away, don’t even leave a letter

She’s safe without you ruining her life
No longer having to put up with the strife
Does it matter that you only want to protect her?

Take another step, and let yourself go
Pop another tune, and leave it all to flow
Stop holding her, the beauty should be free
Just go now, you can clearly see

Drift off to the realm of non-existence and peace
Watch as you’re ‘Precious’ life, starts to cease
  Does it matter anymore?

Did it ever?

Thank you very much for entering this contest. I may add much more of a comment later on since there are so many other submissions.

You may want to keep in mind that I will try to open more of the same contests one after another if I can earn enough feedback to do so which I must say would be truly appreciated. Altogether, I hope this will also give everybody a glimpse at one of you're favorite accomplishments which hopefully in turn inspire them to look at what else you've got.

Excellent poem. You seem to have the knack for taking a contemporary topic and making it your own. You have not taken many shortcuts with rhyming in this poem and it is well written despite being personal, which is rare. You have also bravely invited a critical review, which I love to see. I hate people who won't allow anything but compliments on their work.

I'm glad she called. If you ever feel this bad again, write another poem and post it quickly and ask your poet friends to respond. We will.
