When you Look into a Mirror What is it That you SEE?

When you look into a mirror what is it that you see?
From my perspective,
Through my heart,
I see your vision.
You're confused,
Dazed,
Uncertain,
Flustered.
Fuzzy gray dots in the shape of a circle travel from your eyes to your brain
Fog covers your face
You know it's a head,
But you find it so repugnant and so hideous you've placed something in front of it.
Like a coward, your hiding,
Shielding your outward appearance
What is that?
Wait!
I see it,
It's a mask
Yet, this is no ordinary mask,
For it looks as if collective masks were placed upon your face,
On top of your flesh
It seems for years,
Every few months a new layer was installed atop the old
Swallowing you whole,
Pushing you down further and further into the uttermost depths of the ocean
Burying you under a conglomeration of dirt and grime
What has made you lay this upon yourself?
Upon MY temple?
All you had to do was come to me
You do not take pride in my physical masterpiece,
This is terribly alarming,
But my child the worst is yet to come.
You have let layers of plaster cake upon your eyes and your chest,
You have covered your heart and your soul,
MY heart and MY soul!
Do you not understand?
When I created you, I composed you to illuminate from the inside out.
To shine forth from within
When I assemble MY port in your heart
And you have built a vessel where I may live,
Where I may travel the waters of your soul,
I will then sprinkle MY love and compassion in your heart, underneath your flesh
From this will spring forth a vibrant array of colors,
Making you radiant inside.
But remember this,
I am so powerful,
And my colors are so overwhelming,
They will slice straight through your flesh and not only create beauty on the inside,
But your physical appearance will become alluring
Why would you want to cover such a beautiful painting?
Why drape a cloth over a magnificent sculpture?
Start now
Depart from your bondage
Extract your layers one by one,
Haul them into my nail scared hands
And place them on top of my love.
You are free
You no longer have to hide
You no longer should feel ashamed
Now you shine!
All of this baggage,
Hurt,
Pain,
And sorrow
Forever belongs to me,
With my love, grace, and mercy, I will wear your crud covered mask.
And the nest time I ask you this question:
When you look into a mirror what is it that you see?
You shall reply:
I see indescribable beauty,
I see grace,
I see The Way, The Truth, and The Life
My Father,
I see you.

Thank you so much for your kind comments, I really appriciate them. I honestly feel closest to God through poetry, whether it be from someone else, or from writing it myself. When I fall away from Him, poetry is one thing that will inspire me to regain my relationship with Him cause I keep learning the hard way I can't do it by myself. And your right, you can never fall too far away cause he takes you back no matter what. And that alone fascinates the mess out of me. : ) Thanks again!

    Spirit-filled

WOW I am returning your wow. This poem is truly spirit inspired. I used to write like this and I lost touch with the Lord the past few years. For me it's as if everything is fogged or misted over and yet I know I never can fall to far away from my Father.
Thank you for writing this so eloquently so that it would remind me of days gone by and days I can ignite once again. I love the way you arranged the lines and how it stops to make one think. I also love that this poem has the power to speak to those that don't know they are hiding yet.

    What a masterpiece!
