TAB soda

You're produced with the finest saccharin.
You are the soda that I can really believe in.
TAB, dribbles go down my chin.
TAB, in all my life where have you been?
Sticky, Sweet, the Tonic to my Gin.
My obsession with you wears my friends thin.
They think to be so in love is a sin.
But I don't care, we're practically twins.
TAB, when I met you my life could truly begin.
TAB, you are my light from within.
Wait, this can is empty...
Oh well, off to the bin.

Author notes

I needed a poem about my #1 soda, so until my muse gives me something better to work with, this'll have to do.

Actually, this poem has really grown on me and I like it now.

For the confused readers who don't know what the heck I'm talking about: Tab Soda is a cola flavored soda that was originally made by Coca-Cola in the early 60's. It's my favorite soda and very hard to find due to the fact that only a few stores carry it.

lol This poem is great! I clicked on it because it was such a weird title. And I did know what tab soda was but thought it was only going to be a metaphor. But it was more of a love affair and you really had me laughing at your words. Whether you liked it or not I thought it was lots of fun and very cute.

I know what Tab is. I had it before and it is good stuff and you are right. It is hard to come by. I loved your poem. I thought it was quite witty.

I used to love TAB, I can't find it anymore either so Pepsi Max is what I've settled for now. This has great play on the subject and yes it was an obsession for me during summer, winter..oh heck all the time I was addicted!

    Great Slurp Burp

I once wrote a poem about Coca-Cola. I didn't now we still had TAB. Soda is wonderful. My grandpa said the bubbles in the drink means somebody loves you. Thanks for sharing the love.

    This was a good recommendation

Nice use of monorhyme while paying homage to your favorite soft drink. I'd have to do mine on Vernors... the soda that goes straight up your nasal cavity like a flamethrower on steroids. I have never seen a soda that could get so many people all chocked up. It might actually be radio active or something. Tab is good, but Vernors is great! Anyway, great write -- bottoms up!

I was 4 years old when I was diagnosed with diabetes in the early 70's. The only sodas I recall being on the market at that time that were sugar free were TAB and Fresca. I thought TAB was great! I still see it on the store shelves very occasionally and often wonder if anyone still drinks the stuff. I haven't tried it in years, but this makes me think I ought to see if it's like I remember. I honestly love the poem. I read all the entries as they came in, and this is the one that most stuck in my mind. Thank you so much for your entry and good luck in the contest!

    Best wishes,
    ~J.

    Wonderous.

I too have a passionate love of the soda, and will read this to my grocery-line romance clerk. She appreciates my hikus about spinach and my enduring sonnets to grapefruits. Prehaps I should broden my field and read her someone else's work, unfortunatly I do not buy much spam...

What is TAB, you see I'm a teenage American, so please explain. This is a great piece though, I can see why this has grown on you because it really describes your likes with a flow and ease of readablility.

I love writing poems for contests... just because you can be random and crazy and kind of throw your regular style to the wind. This was cute, and I wish you the best of luck.

TAB was only available in Britain for a short while in the 90s. It failed miserably. I can't really remember it that well, isn't it like a poor mix of sprite, 7up and lemonade.

Have you noticed that the tab key on computer keyboards has now just a symbol instead of the word TAB. I think this is because of Homer Simpsons pressing of the TAB key in the episode where he became morbidly obese and expecting a can of tab to be produced.

Whether it went south or not your poem is still enough to bring a smile to my face. I personally like the "tonic to my gin" reference; but we all know thats just cause I'm a drunk.

Good job hun...You are the upbeat poem to my dark ones.

    Keep Writing

    Love,
