The Human Equation

This human race has a long row to hoe,
it's vantage point has little to show.
For its lofty high attempts to stand tall,
it's no better off then ol' Neanderthal.

Earths animal kingdom I more respect,
at least in its savage habit of survival I get.
understanding of its grace of forgive forget,
and moving on without paranoid fear or regret.

This is not to say there aren't some enlightened souls,
there may even be a select few like you I know.
However each day in my more than half century,
are examples of hatred and needless violence I see.

It's not my preference to seem negative on man,
but it is a vision we must heed and understand.
Take a lesson from nature in her divine wisdom,
we're but a drop of water in time and destined.

To destroy ourselves and a natural Eden divine,
if fear and greed are left unchecked undefined.
Does the tender reed not bend in the wind,
we need to adapt natural compassion to mend.
