Author notes
I made this acrostic Lento for my friend Shahrzad Maftooh, which I hope appreciate this poem. In a Lento, the rule is that first word should rhyme in every line, and the last word of 2nd and 4th line of every stanza should rhyme, otherwise it's pretty freeform... In an acrostic, the first letter of each line make up a word or a name, in this case the first name of my friend. As far as I know, the image is the name Shahrzad in arabic, atleast I found it on a site where it said that it was. As far as I could find out, Shahrzad means born in the city . Considering the alternate ways of pronouncing Shahrazad is Scheherazade (source: Wikipedia) it proves that the name comes from the story One Thousand and One Nights , or Arabian Nights . She really is a princess!

I came to this page from Shahrzad’s page. Actually she’s my AP sis and I love her and whomever she loves! She is indeed as sweet as sugar and her hugs is sent whenever they are needed.
By the way, you wrote a beautiful acrostic for her and I see she loved this as much as I did! Thank you for sharing with us

Thanks!

hi dear bro
Just wanted to let you know I'm doing ok.
btw...a lovely poem.

Hi, kidtriangle. Sorry, but there is not really place for more words in this form, which is very strict in the rules... I also like to write short and concise, so that I can get my meaning through with fewer words - redunant words are just meaningless. Thank you for your comment, though!
Jim
-
nice poem.but it is very short u should have create more word for it
-
Hi, Shah! Ofcourse you would love it, it's a tribute to you!
You deserve it, because you are a princess.
Thanks for dropping by to read this again.
Hugs and roses to you!

I love it! What a wonderful way to tribute a friend! I enjoyed the format. Great write! Debi -
Hi, Paul! This was infact my second attempt to read in my own poetry, not counting the singing of Hangin' in the Air. Oh! I forgot to add that to the Audio poems-list.
I was thinking of publishing my poems in a book, but maybe I can add a CD to it?
Thanks for the comment, and the applause, I really appreciate it!
Jim
-
well done you are getting the hang of this I expect you'll be producing CDs shortly.

Hi, Linda! Thanks for visiting my poem again, I found out that you actually commented on it on February 2nd, but thanks for the new comment, and the applause. I really appreciate it!

Jim this is a pretty poem for your sis..and my neice.. what a treat to see here.. nice choice for our princess.. thank you for sharing..
Love sis.. -
Hi, Lencio! Thanks for reviewing my poem, and thanks for telling me it's still ok within the rules of the Lento. I felt I had to fix it, because when constricted to equal length lines, I had to sacrefice something, in this case the rhythm. Yes, you mentioned that you would have had difficulty judging the contest if I've entered this in the first round. I understand it could battle getsbetter's poem for the gold?
Thank you for your wonderful comment, I really appreciate it!
Jim
-
Yes, it is still good, unlike some of the Lentos which came in the first round of my contest, which eventually were improved. This is still fine. And did I say you would have made my judging difficult had you entered this in my first round?
lol!!! You are one hell of a talented writer here. I am glad to have known you here.
Be blessed,
Lencio
PS: Love to Monica and little Ole

You are right. Shahrzad is great friend and real princess of heart. Your effort to write this kind of poem is perfect way to show her your friendships and compliance.

Great effort, very clever
-
Hi, Yanaleska! It's allright, you don't have to read everything I write, just poems is fine.
This poem was not too hard to write, but I spent about half an hour on writing it... Thanks for the comment, and the heartwarming applause! I really appreciate it!
Jim
-
Aww, this is so sweet!
I love this acrostic. You write them so brilliantly and this was great. Sorry I haven't read much of your work lately.
It's amazing how you can get it to rhyme too. Brilliant write.
Lentos look hard.

Hi, Kat! What a Lento is? That is described in the Author's Comments.
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it alot!
Jim
-
This is really good. . . . Though I'm not all that sure what a lento is;
The flow on this is amazing. You did a lot of inverted word phrases. In my English class we're finally getting to the good literature, and that is one of the things we covered today. . .
Not only is the poem written well and good quality, but the emotions in it are beautiful. Your friend is very lucky to have you
Thank you for your comment

Hi, superkurd13! Shahrzad is a wonderful girl, and she spreads her friendliness all over the site!
Thank you for your comment, and your applause, I appreciate it!
Jim
-
Hi, Bazza! I know this poem is not flowing "properly", but it's because it's sort of difficult to make it have good rhythm aswell as acrostic, rhyming first word, and 2nd/4th line in each stanza...
Thanks for commenting and applauding this poem for the third time!
Jim
-
Wonderful
I just happend to read a poem i've posted here and noticed
Shahrzad Maftooh had posted a comment (the only comment
). So.. this just caught my eye and I read. I like it, certainly beyond my skills. Great work,

Sincerely written with much emotion.
Interesting, challenging, thought provoking, and lots of work, to come up with a novelty poem, but not flowing, although it reads well because of the beautiful sentiments you have expressed. A vivid dedication to Shahrzad that portrays you respect of a Friendship that has been building for quite some time, and now maturing. She is a sensitive and compassionate person and has many other pure and sincere attributes and deserves the praise for she tries so hard to be loved and gives so much love to every one else at the same time. -
Hi, Joseph! Thanks for the comment, and the applause! Be sure to check out my Form Mirror Acrostic for Getsbetter aswell.

This is a wonderul poem for a wonderful person, although I don't know her personally.. I can tell that she has a kind and loving heart! What a nice skill you have to write such poetries as a Lento, may god be with you always. -
Hi, SoulFullHeart! If you liked this, check out my poem Getsbetter (Form Mirror Acrostic) too... Thank you for your great comment, and the heartwarming applause!

What a wonderful write Kelly
-
Yes, I know who won... Gary known here as getsbetter did
I got an honourable mention and would be honoured to have your feedback on my Lento.
-
Hi, Charishma! Yes, I put some time into searching for the image with her name in arabic, and the meaning of her name, plus the referrence to 1001 Nights, but that's the sort of things you do for friends.
This is my first Lento, but I've tried many forms, and this is not more difficult than other forms - so I decided to make it harder!
I talked with Lecio, and he said that had I entered this into the contest, he would have difficulty judging the contest. Do you happen to know who won? Thanks for the great comment, I really appreciate it!
Jim
-
Hi, Bazza! Thank you for your comment, and your applause!
Jim

Masterpiece Lento !
Wow! This is such a sweet gesture for your friend. Both imagery and Lento are fantastic! What hard work to search for the image, meaning of her name, etc. Your effort to create a masterpiece Lento shines right through this. I am sure Shahrzad appreciates this beyond words. She is lucky to be blessed with such a talented and creative friend. This is a beautiful Lento. I enjoyed the descriptive words used to describe what Shahrzad is like. The acrostic bit too is great. Beautiful work, Jim! I am finding it very hard to believe that this is your First Lento
Had you entered Lencio's Lento Contest, you would have grabbed the GOLD right past the eyes of us other contestants!!!
Warm regards,
Charishma Ramchandani

Beautiful written and beautiful sentiments.
Sweet, precise, to the point, and sincerely written. -
Hi, sis! Me king? No, Bazza's the king, I'm merely a prince.
Yes, the idea to combine the acrostic with the Lento came as I realized that both Shahrzad's name and the Lento's lines had the number eight. Problem was to find an "ing"-rhyming word starting with Z, and one making sense.
Thank you for your wonderful comment, and your heartwarming applause, sis, I really appreciate it!
Hugs to you and your husband!
Jim
-
Kudos for you my brother!!!!!
Jim,
Oh my brother, you are a king and your words for the princess are beyond reproach. You never cease to AMAZE me, not afraid of trying any new form and then to add to that form by incorporating the acrostic with it.
No sister could be more proud than I am to have you as my brother. You always make sunny day smile and as you know that warms the heart. I see how much Sharzad thought of this, as well as everyone else who has read it. Keep spreading your love and light, it always comes back to you.
Thank you so much for sharing another masterpiece with all of us, you know I'm standing and cheering, hooting and hollering, etc. etc. etc... as I applaud you for this brilliant write.
Lots of love, from your sis Joyce

This is such an awesome poem! I read the one that she wrote for you and that was awesome too! You two must have a special ond or something to be able to write about each other so well! Anyways, this was brilliant! Well done!!
-
Hi, Mairi bheag! Thanks alot, the idea to combine these two forms came as I figured out that the Lento had eight lines as Shahrzad's name had eight letters.
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it!
Jim
-
Hi, Elizabeth! Thanks for the comment, but I think you mistook who wrote the poem.
I'll show this one to her though!

This poem was crafted really well. I am impressed. I have come across (!) many acrostics on this site, but never until today one which combined another form. Good write!

And Words are winners.
Oh Shahrzad my beautiful and skilful story teller. You entranced the King and saved your self from ultimate death.Words so so soft and alluring man was on his knees adoring. It is the way of the Middle East to weave long stories for feasts and tribal events.I promote this Poem as the interpretatin and imagery is so captivating just like the Pricess.A beautiful and historica Poe dear Poet.Elizabeth -
Hi, Vic! Thanks for stopping by, I am glad my poem for Shahrzad managed to lure you back into my web of poetic words. Now you are trapped!

Hi, Iohagh!
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it!

Hi, sealover! I am sure someone will make a poem for you one day, maybe even an acrostic. Keep studying acrostics, and one day you will be able to write a perfect one yourself. Remember, almsot every poet sees him or herself as a bad poet, not good enough in their own eyes - I suffer from that delusion myself!
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it alot!
Jim

I love everything about my Pixie sister, Shahrzad, so I love this too.

Well done! It's really beautiful and I'll sure like to have a friend to write a poem on me!!

Hi, Lencio! Yeah, I started writing a regular Lento, but then I thought I should write a poem for Shahrzad, and as it's eight letters in her name, I decided to mix it with your Lento form. It was hard finding the word zapping, but as I found it, it fitted perfectly.
Do I understand you right, taht if I had been able to write this a few days ago, and entered it into your first Lento contest, I could have won something?
Ah, well... Too bad you wouldn't allow me in your second contest. Could have brought home a golden trophy!
Thanks for the great comment, and the heartwarming applause, I really appreciate it!
Jim
-
What can I say about this!!!
you never fail to amaze me. this is stunning!!! An acrostic in a Lento??!!!
All I can say is that I am blessed to have you as my friend with so much talent. Thank God this missed the contest, I would have had another big tension lol!!!

wow,my dear Jim.You're so wonderful.
This is so wonderful and the picture is really a great surprise. So lovely and very kind of you.
By the way, that's right that my name means city-born,but it's just the apparent meaning and the real meaning is The Oriental Girl.
Love this poem a lot.
It's a pity that I can applaud it only once for I know you've done a great try for it; especially for finding the picture and the meaning of my name.
