The Knowledge Of The Oak

Missing image
You've existed many years

Much longer than I am old

You know the world around you

And hold many secrets untold

You rise above other trees

Statuesque and tall

And they, like me

Seem insignificantly small

In spring you awake in leaves of green

Reach fullness in the summer breeze

With fall you're clothed with lovely colors

In winter, rest in peaceful sleep

A tower of strength you are

In the heaviest of winds

Moving, bending ,swaying

Like your little willow friend

In flowing calm and stillness

I can see your great peace

Stepping back I witness

Your awesome majesty

Up where you are

Eyes have not seen nor told

The many memories

Your vastness holds

Tho no eyes, no heart

Your life still unfolds

The wisdom and knowledge

Mere humans can never behold

At times I often wander

If you had the gift to speak

Would you tell me of your knowledge

My beautiful Oak tree

Author notes

I have a huge oak tree in my yard that I love. I am in awe of its' beauty so I wrote this as a tribute to it! Written January 31st, 2006

    Great Poem!

I really like the theme. I have a thing for big Oak trees, too. If they could only speak. They only thing they ever say, is a whisper, when the wind is blowing and it's too difficult to discern their words. Really enjoyed this one.

    Touching

Your ability to take something so simple and pull such detail and character is what it is to be a writer. I enjoyed your metaphoric approach. Kuddos!

Very nicely done, the Oak is a very majestic tree and worthy of such poetry. Such serenity in this poem and the oak itself, very well written, good luck in the contest...Scott
