I proposed to my wife in a way she'll remember.
It was Christmas day I preformed this noble task,
for her hand in marriage is what I did ask.
I wanted the moment special, cute & out of sight,
but it was the presentation, that i wanted just right.
The ring I already had, but didn't seem enough;
I wanted the moment different & that made it tough.
Then I got an idea, it seemed really swell;
I had the words "Jingle Bell Rock" engraved on a silver bell.
I took out its dinger, replaced it with the ring;
you could shake the bell & it still went ding-a-ling.
I wrapped it real pretty & neat as can be,
then placed the little package under the Christmas tree.
Early next morning all was going well,
until she opened my gift, and saw it was a bell.
She removed it from the box, then shook the bell twice,
she said "it's not what I expected, but I still think it's nice".
The ring was not noticed, I could see it in her eye,
I said "You know it might sound better, if you held it up high".
She looked at me funny, but did as I said,
she took the silver bell & held it high above her head.
She said "if this makes a difference, I really can't tell";
Just then she looked up & saw the ring in the bell.
The look on her face, her eyes filled with tears;
this is a true story, we've been married for ten years.
Author notes
This is a true story. It was also an entry for a local radio stations contest along with another poem I entered called "Bell of Stone" and their only rules were that you had to use the words "jingle bell rock" in the poem...Needless to say..I didn't win*sigh*..

This is so beautiful. What a lucky woman your wife is. Not many men would think to be that romantic. Most women only wish for someone to be that romantic. May you and your wife have many many anniversaries to celebrate. I have in my mind's eye, the ring as the bell's ringer. What a beautiful ringer it was. Your friend in Poetry, Mysty Rain
