They Would Not Let Me In

Close the pages to your favorite story
Where the hero is filled with well-earned glory
The figures dancing in your mind aren’t real
They cannot love, dream, run away, or feel

It never happened and it never will
But you’re glued to their hearts still

I rode hard all night to make my way
To the world an unfamiliar mind conveyed
I stopped at the guarded gates
My patience growing thin
But they would not let me in
No, they would not let me in

Like a dream killed by a ringing in your ears
Turn away from all the false action and tears
You foolish girl, you have responsibilities
You must pay your bills and clean the house by three

It never happened and it never will
But you’re glued to their hearts still

I rode hard all night to make my way
To the world an unfamiliar mind conveyed
I stopped at the guarded gates
My patience growing thin
But they would not let me in
No, they would not let me in

Within my reach, my destination clear as day
But the guards of the gates have turned me away

It never happened and it never will
But I’m glued to their hearts still

I rode hard all night to make my way
To the world an unfamiliar mind conveyed
I stopped at the guarded gates
My patience growing thin
But they would not let me in
So I must end where I begin

Author notes

Don't you hate it when you're caught up in a book so much that you want to become a part of it, and then when it ends you have to come back to real life?

    surreal

Every time we go into the tales and fictions of books, when it ends we feel the tale has gone and left us standing in the real world ; I enjoyed this poetic epic tale as you try to enter the domain surreal ..
