Voveo Venia

She swallowed what she knew
And sang with the Angels
The physicist's heart rejoiced.

Author notes

Voveo Venia i think means 'Pray for Forgiveness', i thought the Latin was fitting as it is the most commonly used language in hymns. It is about the internal battle with science and religion, as if this scientist was desperate to sing with people who believed in God, even though she believes he doesn't exist... if you see what i mean!

It was a physicist, not psychiatrist - i figured it would make the haiku less abstract and more specific if i didnt just put that she was a scientist. I'm not saying that scientists can't believe in God, but the general consensus that the two ideas oppose each other, so not many scientists do believe in God. Although that is one's own personal choice. I would also be slightly worried about the quality of therapy you've been receiving if their main goal is to try and convert the patient to Christianity. I had a bit of trouble reading your comments, perhaps next time you make a comment re-read for spelling mistakes? (Just a thought, not meant to be offensive). Thanks for your comments though, much appreciated.

i was a bit confused by the title until i read your authors notes and to tell the truth that made me go reread it as i had something eles intirely form this. but i think now that i understand what you were going for that you captured it very well. but who says a scientist cant believe in god? any way i think it would have been more to the point if you used scientist instead of psychiritrist, as every shrink i know has been extreemly christion and thinks that thier practus is for teaching the patient to convert.... and that will save them. i saw a suiside in this one and thought the smile was more ironic. like damb i couldnt save that one. but know that at least they are at peace which might be better than the raving crazy any way kind of thing. that is of course why i like poetry so much its very sugestive and can be read in so many ways. good luck and thank you for sharing.

I liked the poem about as much as I liked the author comments! Very informative, very emotional, and a lovely addition to the contest.
