You can see the battles...
Is peace possible
when there is war
on many levels
on many shores
lurking and burning within our minds...
around every corner
beyond every door?
You can see the battles
raging daily:
suicide, depression
nightmares, conformity
vandalism, drugs, love, authority.Look in the mirror and you値l see
a veteran of many wars
I値l guarantee.Furious in our minds
things we can稚 unwind
causing us to wage war
with everyone in mankind.Wars within our wars
struggling with self-restraints
even fighting for a chance
to break free of ignorance.
Peace is death,
it would appear to me.
Did I mention love?
Oh, angels from above!
Battling with the devils here...
what were we thinking of?
There is no peace-
even in death!

A different take on peace... after all, what are poets for?
Debating with the original:
Is peace possible
when there is war
on many levels
beyond every door?
You can see the battles
daily:
suicide, depression,
nightmares, conformity,
vandalism, drugs, love, authority.
Look in the mirror and you値l see
a veteran of many wars
I値l guarantee.
Raging in our minds
things we can稚 unwind
causing us to wage a war
with everyone in mankind.
Wars within our wars
struggling with self-restraints
even fighting for a chance
to break free of ignorance.
Peace is death,
it would appear to me.

Thanks, James, this piece was more of a provocateur than anything else- to get one to see things in a slightly different way...

Peace is an illusion we all live behind. I don't really believe there is such a possible state of being. The basic structures of life were not created based on crackpot hippy candy stories of everyone living together in wondrous silence, spreading hugs and joy like some kind of love kitchen for the emotionally poor.
Life is rough and survival is the principle by which we live. If it were not for this we would not have made it through our first few hundred thousand years of development.
I would love to say that I think there is some kind of answer to your question, but there isn't.
We have shown, that as a species of animal, we are only slightly more able to construct civilizations than our less intelligent friends in the kingdom of nature, but when you really think about it, the only thing that separates us is our ability to talk, process deep logic and that we have no mercy for our resources. We kill our planet, we kill our fellow beings without reason, overtaking what we should only being taking in necessary amounts and we kill each other, for stupid reasons like politics and religion.
We're like ticks in many ways. We've burrowed our teeth deep into our planets blood and now we are poisoning it. Destroying our air and polluting our water.
One day, humanity will be on the brink of falling to pieces and we shall blame someone else, but in reality, it will be our own stupidity that turns the earth toxic. Our own ignorance and ego.
These things are all true, dark and unforgiving, but true. We need to realize that just because we are intelligent it doesn't make us any better than a slug.
Thanks for writing this thought-provoking piece.
much love,
James

Glad you enjoyed it, lavender One... I was looking over the next one... (trust me!)

YES, I love this.
I love that you went beyond the "war" that most people think of... like WWI & WWII. That was my intention. Indeed, "suicide, depression, nightmares, conformity, vandalism, drugs, love, authority" are ALL wars as well, and they are more common in our society than the wars with guns and weapons. I absolutely adore "Look in the mirror and you値l see a veteran of many wars, I値l guarantee." You have such a great way of wording and adding many layers to your pieces. Wonderfully done!

Thoughtful
Human nature is a creature
Who has choices and it voices
What it thinks like any teacher
In words and actions, gains and losses
To bring to bear their share of this life's features
But there are high principles
Learned through language beyond the rest
By which we see through disciplines
Rather than get them off our chest
We do best to live by those very principles

this is a powerful write bro very philosophical and deep but good all the same, we all have our daily battles to deal with and we all long for peace but i beleive there is a cycle of life and death and we just move up a rung of the ladder towards our paradise with every cycle! beautiful peice well done xx Cheryl

great reading , we all have our own take on things, none are wrong
-
yes there is peace but its inside you. look there for peace
-
Quite a deep piece
Keep writing, I found this to be very powerful
Quite a dark conclusion
Good use of italics and alliteration
Good metaphor, fighting through life
All the best

Awesome
lol this poem is true, we spend our lives suffering and people think there will be peace when we die; henceforth, some suicide tries, but we must keep positive, head upright, and wait in line for our time to come

excellent
A Brilliant poem. I felt as if I was been taken through a fast forward movie of life and death.
I really like the thought provoking ending. This just makes one realise that there is No Escape! we just keep coming back till we learn the lessons. the only solution is to do it right. Wouldnt it be wonderful if all of mankind realised this simultaneusly!

Hi, you have painted a perfect picture of the world as it is today, great poem and super art work, wish I could do art work on my poems like yours, your poem says how so many of us feel, perhaps the only peace we will ever know is death, life is just one battlefield not only in the war zones but everyday life we have to fight like wild cats, like you I could do with a break, super write, all the best, hugs Di

I loved this write, and i am usually very critical of every poem that i comment on, but i enjoy the raw meanings and intertwining thoughts and images that this poem presents.
"Peace is death" is a philosophy that i relate to a lot in my writings, and your interpretation of that statement is very interesting at the least!
The words you have chosen are very down to earth which makes the meaning hit harder where it counts, and also makes the poem more believable at the same time.
I enjoy the fact that you actually guarantee your views in the poem, and it fits in so snugly into the pattern of the poem that it's not realised until the very end. This sort of writing is really great; where after reading the poem a couple of times different aspects jump out at you depending on how you read each line.
Keep up the good writing!

this brought me to tears this was so amazingly corny! There was so much cheese in this poem it looked edible enough for a rat to eat!!! which isn't edible, which shows how dumb and crap this poem was...
ha! yeah right!
this poem was incredible!
bueno muchas la senor mu muchacho el papo my mazerebal el ribro!

mmm... yeah, I see what you're saying. I once said 'War is love in a different form.' And that's slightly echoed here, at least to me. But yes, war comes in varied forms and types, and we are all veterans.
This was nice.

Thanks, EmptyWish, yes, peace has it's moments, like the initial 'up' on a roller-coaster! lol

WOW~ You really point and make it known to all that we all have our own personal battles the we fight each and every day. Ranging in scale. The line:
"You can see the battles
raging daily:
suicide, depression,
nightmares, conformity
vandalism, drugs, love, authority"
I like that you stated all or some of the battles that we rage and face. The words:
"Peace is death
it would appear to me."
I agree yet disagree. True that the battle would be over but I'm a bigger fan of fighting them all to prove them wrong. I still like it all tho.

this reminds me of that saying we all have our own warzones- it was both reflective and thought provoking writing-Im still pondering the peace is death - its unsettling together and I think thats interesting the way two words can entice thought like that- well penned poetry- lola
