Do you see me?
I have been invisible for many years
cloaked in being what each person needed,
all the rest tucked away until it seemed a ghost.
Do you see me?
I have teal eyes rimmed with gray
and auburn hair in tendrils, spirals,
waves, wisps, and frizz.
Do you see me?
My freckle splotched cheekbones perch way up high.
My nose is slightly hooked, my lips are thin.
I have small breasts, great shoulders, and a long, long neck.
Do you see me?
I paint my toenails in exotic colors,
wear cowboy boots without socks,
hippie skirts, and dangly earrings.
Do you see me?
In an old blue flowered mini dress, tatty and soft with age,
in the long, slow, quiet hours of the night,
I play the fiddle, write poetry, and drink too much tea.
Do you see me?
I like kisses. Lots of kisses.
Languid, urgent, hopeful, satisfied, sweet, and ornery,
I like kisses.
Do you see me?
I like best posies of my favorite wildflowers.
the texture of yarn playing through my hands as I knit.
jewelry that is costume, copper, or Celtic.
Do you see me?
My house has opened windows and light, light, light.
It is full of pets, and plants, and old photos,
and reflects me as whimsical, eccentric, and quaint.
Do you see me?
I have been invisible for many years,
but now
I have just begun again to see myself.

This comment of yours was kind of scary insightful, especially the last lines. I don't get much time to respond to people, or even read much of the wonderful work being shared on Allpoetry but I do read when I can and I will look forward to reading some of your work. Thank you.

really really good, its so true we present many faces to the world according to whose company we keep at that time, we tend to be that person they need us to be very rarely in fact do we show the true us , i have many layers and multiple faces there are very few people in this world who actually would recognise the real me with all my faults and sometimes passions and skills, i enjoyed this write of yours very much it gave a clear picture of yourself and the things in your world that inspire you a very honest write , there are far to few of them around today, the overall feeling i got from it was one of peace happy in the person you are almost contentment, but full of recognition of the fact your fully aware ,this you is not the one you have shown to the world in the past , its time right now for you and your time , be selfish ! may be thats the wrong term but i guess you know what i'm trying to say.

I like how you say you've found yourself again! It's like coming oout of hibernation and realizing who you are!

The question is, Do you see you? Sometimes we just forget about ourselves and live for everyone else. Glad to see that you are seeing you.. Good writing!

PERFECT!
One of the best poem I recently saw here. Very descriptive, with lot of included, almost "invisiblle" feelings what flows from line to line making a great finish:
~
Do you see me?
I have been invisible for many years,
but now
I have just begun again to see myself.

Growth
I'm glad you were able to emerge from the murky silk of confinement that also taught you the meaning of freedom! Rested and renewed you now take wing into your butterfly adventures! Your brother is so proud! -
spectacular
beautiful in all respects...wonderfully vivid, full of personality, and life. -
This is just wonderfully written. And yes, I do see you. The imagery is uncanny. The flow was light and smooth. I wouldn't change anything about this. This is absolutely beautiful!
Yours always,
