The monster in the bed

The monster in the bed

When you are afraid of dreams
When no one hears your screams
Where are you?

You fall asleep
And feel the tears creep
Slowly, silently

The monster comes to you
Can't escape what is true
The monster always comes

He is there during the day
He will always stay
To haunt your nights

Slice the wrist
Clench the fist
Lose the pain

This is a child's life
All this pain and strife
The monster is always there

No child can ever see
A day they will be free
Away from the monster

What is behind the mask
Why won't you ask?
Maybe a monster comes to them

The monsters are real
Everyday they steal
Another child's innocence

When a child is afraid to dream
When no one hears their screams
They have a monster with them.

Ooooooh dark and deep and all-around thought-provoking. The subject is as sensitive one, which you have broached without offense or awkwardness. it gets the important message across...so we can continue the fight against this type of evil.

Wow, I think it's very well done, you've kind of done it in a way that a child might see, from their point of view. This really makes me so angry because I just honestly cannot believe that people are capable of doing harm to children, it drives me mad!
The only thing, in my honest opinion, that doesn't fit is the slice the wrist part...when you are speaking of the horrors of abuse in the eyes of a child, depending on the age I suppose, that just doesn't seem to fit, but I don't know, that's just my thought.
This is a very powerful write, capturing the sadness, sorrows, and pain of children who are suffering and are too afraid to tell.
