Apathetic youth
Filled with angst and hatred towards every member of humanity
Following a set of rules that they wouldn't follow voluntarily,
But they have to follow them because that's one of the rules.
All of us are caught up in the same system whether we like it or not,
And like a herd of sheep we all veer in the same direction.
We all go through the same processes-
Live, love, die, it's inevitable.
And all the youth try to make something of their lives.
Just as the generation did before them.
They try to change the direction they're going by using every source available,
And sometimes it works for a short while.
But us youth are so ignorant.
We become so seduced by our own apathy that it controls us.
We are not able to think.
Drugs and alcohol enter the scene and for a while it saves us from the horror of reality.
Some of them realise that they have been hiding.
Their apathetic ways turn into a hunger for knowledge,
For with knowledge comes power,
And with power comes the energy to change the world.

this is so hella right on. i peronally dont see it as only a issue with the youth..it steams to the corprates as well. unless you are willin to wear red in a all tan society..you are always gonna be a sheep following a master. damn well done baby. i love you..

This is true more of adults than with youth, most of those who will protest and stand up publicly for their views are often those who are not even old enough to vote. As for knowledge leading to power, true in a sense, but if you live in a religious community, knowledge also leads to angry rednecks burning your house down and the police searching your house without a warrant. But regardless I loved your work as I do all of your poems I've read. Take care Georgia, stay beautiful.

Amazing write. I love how shameless you are in telling it like it is. I am writing similar pieces on society as well.
You captured the common mind of a naive teenager. Been there, luckily grew out of that! lol
I enjoyed your flow, and consistency throughout this piece. Great perspective on life, and faith. You show great optimism, and imply that everyone has the potential to better themselves.
I love that idea, and spread it as often as possible.

WOW! That is my first impression... I was surprised to see the ending of this work as I thought by the way the poem was going that this write was going to go into a depressing ending but you changed it all around giving light to it at the end... recognizing that there is always hope, that not everything is lost. You are right my little friend, knowledge is power and with it comes the energy to change the world and that is what you are doing.
