Love Lies Bleeding

Missing image
You plunge the knife into my flesh
You leave the mark that scars my soul
You rip my heart out, leave me to bleed
Your words have taken the appropriate toll.

If I were you, I'd never forgive me
But I loved you, that much is true
Honestly, baby, if that were the case
Believe me, I'd hate me too

Oh, love lies bleeding far too real
Love lies bleeding with none to heal
I could never tell you how I feel
'Cause love lies bleeding far too real

You lift the candle to the flesh
You leave the burn that scars my heart
A reminder of a love that was lost
A token of the thing that tore us apart

Forgive me, please, just understand
My intentions were good, I swear
I swear to you on my heart forever
To let you know I care.

'Cause love lies bleeding here in the rain
Love lies bleeding with no hope to heal the pain
I could never tell you how I feel
'Cause love lies bleeding with none to heal...

Author notes

This work was inspired by a line in a Christina Rosetti poem I wrote it back when I was, like 17 or 18, and my stuff actually rhymed.

GORGEOUS, darling. This poem practically begs to be a performance piece - all grand gestures and eloquent tones ringing through an auditorium. The atmosphere is anguished, repentent. You have packed lots of pretty-factor into the lines you've presented, and that goes a long way. Great work.

Thanks! I'm really glad you liked it. I think that everyone goes though the same at some point in their romantic lives. Thanks again!

this is really great. I see you may have gone through the same things I have....love really sucks, but yet it's so divine. Thanks for posting.
