After Suicide

Children called him “Big John”
Friends called him “Johnny B”
He was a gentle giant, a huggable bear
Who loved children unconditionally

Children without fathers
Found a man who cares
Woman without husbands
Found a shoulder for burdens to share

Younger men like me
Found a mentor and a friend
A man who listened and related
A man on whom we could depend

Ending his own life
Left a trail of tears
Broken hearts are lost
Crushed and hurting for years

Ministry of hope we shared
Has come to an mournful end
Friendships bond by his love
Have been hard to mend

Children have been devastated
Those who loved him are confused
The pain runs deep in our souls
Our lives feel empty and abused

Who will heal the children now?
Who will bring laughter to our hearts?
Who will listen to our secrets?
Who will replace what departs?

Author notes

If you really want to hurt those who love you, kill yourself.
If you want to stop the potential good you can do others, end your life.
My friend and mentor did just that.

    sad~

Is this the person you told me about........I am sorry that this has happened to you..You are such a wonderful person and friend but no that no one can ever replace the memories or the times that you spent together......You tried to help them so much...and he was just thinking straight about the people he would hurt or leave behind....One day you will be together again.....until then you have your memories like I have of my mom....
    Sadly penned......
    Love n hugs

    another amazing write.

an excellant demonstartion of the way some of our dearest friends don't realize how important their presence on earth is. i felt like i knew the man you wrote about and wanted to grieve with everyone else. you have a way of giving your characters demention and personality, even in a short poem. i'm so sorry for this loss for you. sounds like he was an amazing person, i know that's got to be hard. i'll keep you in my prayers.
ps. thanks for the comment on mine.
