MY RELIGION

Allah is my God
Mohamed is my Prophet
And Islam is my Religion

Islam comes from the word ‘Peace’
And we have always wanted peace
Never wanted war and blood shed.
We fought only when we had to;
To protect our religion and our families.

For so long,
Others have made false claims toward us
They called us terrorists and wrong doers
True, there are bad people,
Who stray away from their religion,
But that does not make us all the same!

In Islam,
Our belief is in Allah,
Who is One and Holy.
There is no other.
And we are created from mud.

In Islam, and our beloved Qur’an,
Many phenomena are explained,
All miracles are written,
All the Prophets’ stories are told,
And also the creation of man.

In Islam,
Allah has no father and no son
Allah is One, there is no other God
And we worship him alone!

This is Islam,
And it is my religion

Author notes

no matter what religion you are, i want your comments on my poem. Also if it you see it in the featured box/section please comment coz it costs points

You should not judge a whole faith by some people who do crazy and retarded stuff. I don't judge christians as a whole, I judge each one separately and for who they are!

This poem has received the Silver Trophy

I want to thank all who read and are reading my poem and those who applaud it as well.

Salaamu alaikum! I liked this; it needed to be said and you said it well. But there are few Muslim poets out there who are speaking up about the beauty of Islaam, and there is so much to say.

Very intruiging. I am quite glad that you wrote this and that so many people have commented on it. It is so very true that every religion has its bad people; mine included. I am a witch, a pagan. You can be sure there are a vast number of misconceptions and falsehoods about my religion, as well as a few bad apples. I feel we should all aproach each other and our respective religions with open minds and caring hearts; each religion also has its good people. You're quite right; we should definitely be looking at each individual and not basing our perceptions on a few angry, misguided, or hateful people. Kudos.

    I love it!

Very lovely! I was intriqued by your poem Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Which lead me to this peice of work. It is very sad how closed-minded individuals will attack an entire religion for the acts of a handful of "followers." I don't deal well with religion bashing of any sort, especially when the individual is too ignorant and stuck in their own ways to even open their minds and give others a chance to prove them all wrong.

    Wonderful write!!

Holy crap how do you get so many comments on this?!!!

Personally my own views of Islam is a very split religion, split between the ones who aren't following the laws of the religion, our favorite terrorists! And the true ones who follow it, which it seems you definitely do. I've never really thought of Egypt having bad Islams for a long time. Hasn't it pretty much been since the time of Moses? lol I've not heard of anything bad going on there in a longgggggg time. But I like this alot. It is a good write and it certainly describes Islam well from an Islamic's pov who just seems to be crying out to the world that not all of her people are bad.

Here's my testimony for you, I'll hug you and say "Peace be with you" like we do at church every Sunday. We Episcopalians are taught to truly follow the Bible where it says that God says, "to love one another, no matter the difference. God made EVERYONE the way they ARE." So if they are gay, they DO come into our church, we have gay people in our ministry and I am happy for that.

Talk to you later Nooni, again, great write!

This is an interesting overview of your religion and your right, too often do people judge the Islamic religion based on what they see on t.v. and assume that all Muslims are like that. People tend to watch news if it is edgy, and that means tearing down everyone for the sake of drama. If all our religions were judged solely by the news, we would be praying to no one(cause they always say we will keep so and so in our prayers but talk trash on all religions), christians would all be gays and perverts(contreversies about priest touching little boys), Muslims would all be terrorist(9/11), and we would all be choosing what religion "suits us".

Even though I am a christian I feel the islamic religion to be very misunderstood. The religion is not bad, people are bad. And that is true in any religion. Look at what happened in the crusades....many muslims were slaughtered. Arabic terrorists do not represent Islam anymore than christians or catholics represent a specific country. I have studied many religions. I choose to believe in Jesus. I believe he is the only way to heaven. But I am no one's judge. God is my judge, and I am accountable for my actions.
"Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few". Ecclesiastes 5:2 - the bible

    Interesting

I comment on your poem and return the favour for you commenting on mine - thanks - this is not really a poem, but rather a deperate attempt to justify your relgion - to say you only fight to protect your religion tells it all - a religion (or God for that matter) that needs to be defended is not worth a plug nickle. The terrorists say they are the true Moslems and you are not. Your religion says you are not to shed innocent blood - my religion says we are not to shed guilty blood. Read my poem "Since Time Began" You say people make false claims, I'm sure you won't convince many that Moslems are not guilty, but then again the U.S.A. is guilty as sin too. Do you consider non-moslems infedels? Bless God - Dobar Dan

Wonderful, I my self have no real clam on one religion, I do however believe that there is one power, one God to rule them all. Weither it be what you believe or others, I am still learning what my heart wants of me and my soul. Well expressed piece you have my dear. You should read, "Now what do I believe" and this can show you what I fight within my own mind in religion. It would mean a lot to me.

You have stated the problem with faiths very succinctly: we are judged by what others do. I am lumped with those who do the most horrendous things in God's name, even though we know they do it either for themselves or in a misguided sense of what God wants. The same is true for your faith (I avoid the word religion as it is man-made and not God-made.) There are so many Muslims who do not agree with what is going on right now. They are not true followers of their faith, as the Christians who kill doctors who perform abortions; they are bullies. Plain and simple.

No one ever asks the little people how they feel about things; they are more interested in getting their point across.

Thank you for sharing your faith with us; it cannot be easy, with the anti-Muslim climate right now. We can only pray that one day everyone will be able to live side-by-side in peace, no matter what their beliefs.

i completely agree with you. people should not judge others because of religion. religion is an important thing a person but religion doesnt always make the person. i think you showed that in this poem. it is unfortunate that society puts people into a group and thinks that they all are the same, we all know they are not. this poem is so beautifully written and conveys very clearly a very strong message.

    very good

I am Christian. I used to be Egyptian pagan, but I converted. I have nothing against Muslims in general. Most of the ones I know are decent people. However, unfortunately, decent people don't make the news much, so all we ever hear about are those Muslims who want to blow us all up for whatever reason. It's a shame that the decent ones get such a bad rap from the intolerant, murderous jerks that happen to share the same religion. Sadly, we Christians have our fair share of those, too. I shudder to think that somewhere out there someone is forming his or her opinion of Jesus, based on the examples of Jerry Falwell or Fred Phelps. I certainly hope the majority of Muslims don't think and act like Osama bin Laden.

Looking at the poem with a critical eye, it seems to be more of a prose piece broken up to look like a poem. That would be my only "beef" as it were, with this poem. That being said, I think you didn't write this to post a poem, but to rather post your thoughts and feelings on the issues surrounding your religion. I think you achieved that admirably and I applaud your willingness to post it and create a discussion on it here. I have served my time in Iraq, and I am not so stupid to believe that what some fanatics and lunatics do, is represenative of the entire culture/religion. As a Mormon, I am well aware of how misconceptions can create a hateful reaction in the willfully ignorant. Good luck and God bless.

I applaud the sentiment, and fully agree that there needs to be more understanding between religions. (I'd quibble with you over the second stanza, as all the big religions have caused their fair share of war/turmoil) Unfortunately, as a poem this didn't work for me. It came off as preachy, lacked any sense of symbol or imagery.

Could it be reworked? Perhaps centered around the image of bending to the will of God (isn't this the original of the term islam?)

Great poem :-) First of all, I'd just like to say it's wonderful to read a poem on religion here that isn't Christian. Don't get me wrong, although I have mixed feelings on what I believe, I lean toward the 'Christian' teachings...however, it seems that always, when there's a poem or collumn here on religion, it's always Christians saying how people must do this or that to be forgiven by God and that they somehow know best...ergh...anyway, that could just be me being unlucky with what I click on, but it has been my experience here so far...but it truly is refreshing to see a poem about a different religion :-) I really liked the message in this, and it is something so crucial in these times. It's both bold of you to stand up so strongly and say this with pride, and also to say it in a poetic manner, making it a piece of art in its own right, not just a speech which I have seen here a lot too. Really, really well done on this....a really great poem :-)

Very interesting. Basically, the trend I've noticed with religious zealots of any faith, is that they get so involved in the morals associated with their beliefs and being a good "christian" or good "muslim" that they forget how to be a good person in the process. I personally am an atheist. It gives me a lot more insight into the faith of others and allows me to better appreciate all lifestyles bother for their good points and their flaws. I definitely agree with this piece. I studied theology as a kind of personal hobby for about 5 years. Nicely done. Well structured and silky-smooth in execution, which carries it's powerful message well. Take care.

    Interesting and informative.

In my life and work I have met peoples of different faiths. No your religion is not the only religion that have killed others. Most of my dealings with people that believe as you do have been good ones. There are fanatics in every religion. While I believe in Jesus Christ the son of God, it does not mean that I am to hate you or do wrong to you because of your faith. There is a lot about the way that you pray that I think we should all be more diligent about. I truly believe that peace first begins in the person and that we must reach out to others in order to understand their beliefs and respect them.

Its good to see you being proud of your religion. I'm a Catholic myself, but I really liked your piece. It was full of conviction and clarity. I think its important to learn about lots of religions because it may give you perspective on your own. Its unfortunate that some americans are so ignorant that they extract lines from the Quran and use it to attack Islam - calling it a violent religion. That should be an oxymoron, but I guess recent events have shown that violence and religion often linked. I say, no violence whatsoever, because no religion condones it. If you want to take out lines from the Quran and say that Muslims must kill anyone who doesn't convert, then you can take things out of the Bible and say that gays should be killed on site. Its all to be taken in context I think. Anyways, I digress, good poem. lol

    well done!

So so so true! I'm Christian, but what you've just descrived of Islam is exactly what my best friend lives! That's how I learnt about Islam... from her life.

I shudder at how many silly people think about Muslims as terrorists. It is tragic that such narrow-mindedness and ignorance abounds when education has never been more accessible to the world's peoples! I get annoyed because I know so many devout and altogether wonderful people who are Muslim andI hate to think that anyone would call them terrorists! Truly, Islam is a religion of peace. And true Muslims live it.

Nada I applaud this poem and I am sending the link to my friend. Stand up for what you believe in, even when others around you take the path of ignorance. Continue to learn and educate others as well!

    Marissa.

See, everyone has this problem with religion. "Muslims are terrorists, Catholics are child-molestors, Satanists are evil, Jews are greedy." The misdeeds of a few become the basis of arguments for loads of people. Most Muslims I know are calm people, peaceful people. I myself am Catholic, and I've never been drawn to children, I've hung out with Satanists and they're really not evil, and my ex was Jewish and hardly a representative for the Israeli government's actions in the Middle East...

The poem itself was alright. I preferred the contents over the form and wording. A good way to express what you believe, and spread some understanding. Can't judge a whole people or religion based on acts of some people, and you can't put everyone in the same category.

I applaud you for standing up for your religion. I do how ever have some difficulty with some of your lines. I don't believe we were created from "mud" per say. The bible says we were created from the earth. In another line I dissagree with is "Alla being the only one", With God there is a trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

I admire you for putting this up for all to read and I'm sure there will be controversy with all religions. I think you did a great job explaining this to all. I don't mean to put you down for your beliefs, just trying to explain mine too.

nice poem, awkward form but loved the confidance and pride shown in this poem! I guess your right. People do really catagorize fast in this world...If your from iraq, your a terrorist, if you come from france, your fat, lol its just easier for people to look at the big picture than indivisual aspects! well good poem... thank you for entering and good luck!

    PS: loved the line

And we are created from mud.

HEHE never thought about that before!

it's sad that everyone's profiled today...it doesn't matter what race...religion or persuasion...honey there's a few manipulating the many...what is happening is there's so much hate that it has brought humanity to it's knees...I've also studied history and civilizations...we are back where we were 11,000 years ago...there were advance civilizations...that's another story for another time...history is about to repeat itself..smile and hugs..thanks for responding back...Dave

    outstanding insight and truly written..bravo!

Your religion is the same as of the Christian and of the Jewish faith...I've read the Koran...that's not a doctrine of hate...but of the same insight as the other religions..for they come from the same patriach...Abraham...most forget that and the significence...in a world unraveling...isn't it time for humanity to start getting along before we have "nothing left"...outstanding write...hugs...David

You know, suprisingly I know what you are talking about. I am European (caucasian) but I am Muslim( not Islamic though). But, in the holy places I used to go when I was a child, there would always be the Qu'ran. The only difference in my situation is that I didn't call God "Allah", but God, in my language, Albanian.
Anywaisss, I am not a religious person though, my parents are, but I'm more of a believe-in-only-God-and-no-religion person.
But, I don't judge people just because of their religion. Diversity is cool, I love it. There can't be only Christianity, or only Budhism, or whatever, there has to be a variety of religions too, so that people can choose from.
Nice write my friend. Selam Alejkum

so basically you see jesus as a prophet, not a messiah. but scripture also says that just because you are forgiven your sins through Jesus sacrifice, you dont have carte blanche to go on sinning. Even without Jesus in the picture, in the old testament the message from god was always the same...there is nothing in this world you can do to earn it. there is no wisdom knowledge or anything else that god did not give. so how can one earn something that has already been given to them.

of course you have to earn your way into heaven. Isn't that what happens in most things in life. You can not "sin sin sin" and find yourself in heaven and say it was a gift. Furthermore, we believe in Jesus but as the messenger of Christianity not the son of God.

Religion, isn't that something that is done religiously, daily? Not just relegated to one "holy day a week". I feel your religion of Islam is practiced more religiously than the western christianities. And I am, was one.

    Lovely piece.

Oh. This is a nice little poem that you have written here! I like it! And I agree that you can't blame everyone for what a few people do. People do that with everything though and race especailly. It's all very sad. But I think that it's great that you stepping up and willing to speak out not in anger but in a show of peace and try to help people understand. I think that's really wonderful and positive of you and I hope it helps others. You have done a good job of expressing yourself here. So thanks for featuring this so that we all had a chance to share your words and feelings with you!

the only basic difference between christianity is the in christianity, there is Jesus. the thing i have always had a problem with concerning islam is that god is a punitive god, not one of love and you have to earn your way into heaven. In christianity, there is nothing you can do to earn it, its a gift.

Thank you for reading and commenting paullallady. I'm glad you liked my poem. We do not kill women and children and say it is in the name of religion. We fight when we have to, for our religion, families and out land. We don't kill 'just like that' although some do yes. But those are idiots (really) and it is not in the name of Islam to go blow yourself up either.

    very good

I like how you explained your religion. It was a nice read. I don't think that everyone thinks that all islams are terrorists. Though when I see them burning the american flag, I guess they hate all americans. The basic fact of almost all religions is love. Pure love. In pure love there can not be hate, and killing. Even the first christians were killed just for believing and they did not fight. The stood fast in their beliefs, so I have a hard time believing that killing men, women children and standing back saying it is in the name of my religion,,,can that ever be justified? I don't know. We each will know one day if the choices we made were correct. Your write though was almost an "this is my religion and I am putting it right in your face!" which makes it a powerful write and very good.
