When I Met God
I met God while planting mint in the mud
and crying with the clouds
on a day when I was out of hope and out of faith.
Down there in the middle of the ditch,
in the middle of failed marriage, failed love, failed promises,
God spoke to me in my grandmother’s voice and said,
“’Twill be alright honey.”
I met God when I was ten years old
and my brother, my cousins, and I
had just finished putting three kittens
in the ample cups of my mother’s bra as it hung on the line.
God laughed the hardest of us all,
hands slapped down on knees, belly shaking, eyes tearing,
and whispered, “Try a fourth.”
I met God in the pre-dawn morning
as I honored my most recent birthday
by counting my blessings as I drove into work.
Forty-six minutes later I parked in the lot
and found that I still hadn’t finished.
There in the first light I simply said, “Thanks.”
God said “Amen.”
I met God one gem-hued day as I sat on a sunny, grassy slope.
I was replete with one perfect hug, so many smiles,
cherished poetry, and the music of good friends.
God laid a musician’s calloused hand on my shoulder
and said “This one moment, this warmth,
this foot tapping, body swaying, singing along contentment,
this Now, this is happiness.”
I met God in the meadow in my dreams
where I talk with those I can only hold in memories.
God wore pink high tops, baggy seated jeans,
sunglasses, and a crumpled old hemp hat.
We shared a fishing pole and orange peanut butter crackers.
Then, as we companionably wiped our mouths of crumbs,
God said, “It is ALL right, honey.”

WOW
wow wow wow, I did not know what to expect when I clicked on this, I guess maybe the typical when i got to heaven kind of thng, but this, this was amazing. You are so right. we meet God all the time, every day,,,in the things we do, in friends, family and loved ones. we just need to have the faith and love to see him when he is there. -
A very nice poem, your belief in God is a powerful muse that has allowed you too write some excellent, uplifting poetry.

Wow! Just wow! This is really good. You write really well. And i don't know what to say. I just love how you made god feel and sound so much more really and tangiable. Cause you know some times it feels like he's not even there. And you wonder. Wonderful write. You've got really talent. Do continue to share.

This is good. We can see the good in other people and also see God in them as He works through others to get to us. Great job

Inspirational Write!
This is a beautiful spiritual write! as I read through your poem, my favourite scripture came to mind;
"Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God, and the peace of God that excells all thought, will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus." Phillipians Chapter 4 verses 6 and 7.
That scripture has saved my sanity on more than one occassion. It has also shown me that our heavenly father DOES hear and answer our prayers if we work along with his will.

I feel there are many times within our lives that we re-introduce ourselves to God. I say we re-introduce for he is always with us, we just have to acknowledge his existence and join in on the relationship. I like how your poem shows you have met God more than once, for I have gone through this myself. At this time in my life, a re-introduction would be beneficial. Wonder if he knows? hmmmm...
Great job and I enjoyed reading this.

This is so beautiful. Sadly, there is no higher power to tell me that things will be alright, not for me, anyway. Because as far as I can tell, it doesn't matter if it really is there, it's what you feel about it, yes? Well, I can't find it, and I want it so much, and people keep telling me I'm looking in the wrong places, but I don't know where to look.
Anyway, enough about me.
This piece is beautiful, and definitely deserves my applause. The language you've used and the imagery created are wonderful. That's about all I can think of for now, but welcome to my favourites list! -
Awesome Must Read!
What an enlightening, uplifting, inspiring write this is! I LOVE IT! I am dying here with the imagery you've created with the kittens in your Mother's bra on the clothesline! What a riot!
This whole poem has sort of a 'Norman Rockwell' appeal to it. It's all just so earthy and wholesome. Sort of like a 'do you remember when?' feeling comes to mind. Very beautifully penned write. Most beautiful....just like your hands
Thank you for sharing!

Inspiring
My higher power has said much the same to me and I always feel calmed and safe and secure and renewed during those moments. Got me through many a trial and tribulation as you well know. The best part of your poem speaks to what it is all about. Companionship. We were designed with Communion in mind, between ourselves and our higher power. Great job! Inspiring.
