Yeah, must have been one of those days again.
He sure has had a bunch of them lately.
Seems like he drags himself up those steps slower and slower everyday.
His jaw just kinda hanging there.
Pitiful droopy face.
Sad weary eyes.
Poor fella.
I don't know what it's called, stress I reckon.
Whatever it is, all those years of it are catching up to him.
Wait a minute! I'm no pup anymore myself.
These bones have quite a few miles on them as well.
We're both two old hounds.
Maybe that's why we bond so well.
"Hey old timer", I think he likes me calling him that.
He's never complained is all I'm saying.
I sure missed him today.
I can tell he's missed me, too.
I wonder why he likes that old recliner so much.
It's old. It's smelly.
Maybe that's it.
Similarities.
Oh man! I love it when he does that!
Nothing beats a rub behind the old ear!
Yeah, there you go old timer. Make room for me.
We'll just kinda lay here together and watch the sun set.
No, no- I'm fine. Just relax.
Tomorrow's a new day.
One more hard day in the books.

excellent read
I just loved this write and the inspiration you got from the picture it was such a smooth read...I liked the fact they both got old together...I think these are the best two lines and they make me smile..."Oh man! I love it when he does that!
Nothing beats a rub behind the old ear"!...I keep reading your poem over and over...thank you... ~Lilac~

What a great write! And I must be getting really slow in my old age, 'cause it took me almost to the end to figure out that you were talking about a dog. (Not as brght as I used to be!
) This was so cute! You have a wonderful way of building your poem up, so that you do keep your reader guessing. I love that in a poem! This is really cute, and I know it will do great in the contest! Good luck!
