In A Beam of Light

Missing image
Just a pale blue dot
Suspended in a sun beam
Billions of inhabitants
The place we call home

Everyone who’s ever lived
Our friends and neighbors
The ones we hate, our enemies
All have lived on this little dot

Just a diminutive, blue dot
That’s all we will ever be
Never any bigger than that
Our lives have little significance

God is everywhere in the universe
He is there when we are crying in pain
Why do you worry so much about your problems?
Isn’t God bigger than everything?

God is control of our lives and problems
He is the creator of our world, the dot
Shouldn’t we just give out problems to Him?
Trust God, he is the answer to every equation

Author notes

I went to Student Life Camp this summer. The pastor there taught us this lesson. Seeing the picture for this contest reminded me of this picture.

In this picture, you'll see a pale blue dot in the center of the yellow line. This dot is earth, 3.7 billion miles away, taken by the Voyager 1 spacecraft on 6/6/1990. Voyager 1 was a spacecraft that was sent around to all the different planets to take pictures of them. Once it had reached the end of the galaxy, they told it to turn around and take a picture. The 3 lines are sunbeams. Just thought I should explain the picture.

For those who can't find the dot, here's a picture zoomed in and with an arrow

'surrender surrender, You whisper gently... You say I will be free, I know but can't You see...my dreams are me, my dreams are me...' (Surrender by BarlowGirl <---- i dont listen to much just that song)

for sum reasont that brought that song. again u manage to put everything back into perspectiv with u poems! makes one think... *yay! lov thinking * it seems strange how much importance we put on our problems, when we know that technically the universe is infinite... like sometimes i really dont understand y this trivial stuff gets to me... i should b worrying about higher stuff... *sigh* my earthly mind will b my death one day... heh.

wonderful poem... best wishes for the contest! *ur my winner !! *

    awesome

this is so amazing I mean we think about everything on earth as being huge, like our mountains and people living thousands of miles away, yet looking at this picture, is amazing because it really gives a feel for what our "home" is like in the vast galaxy......and to think, God is said to hold the universe in His hand.....it really awes me because there are many other planets that are bigger than us. Plust there have been said to be other galaxies, yet our God, my God, holds in all in His hand. It really gives one a sense of security to know that such a big God as this, loves and is protecting me.
Great job, and good luck in this contest........you deserve it!

oh this is really good!!! Of course I believe earth is a green dot, not a blue one..because Neptune is more blue than earth..and so is Uranus. Anyway.

This was really great, you used dot a little bit much..but still. Great job. Lovely write Tim, lovely!!!
