~74~
A gleam in my Daddy's eye some early September evening.....
perhaps my conception began with the simple need to be warm?
~75~
In the wee hours of a June morn.....I am born.
~*~
Soon, reality sets in.....
~*~
I learn to yearn
for all that I do not have.
Commercials on the t.v. lead me.....
"Mom, can I have the talking Ronald McDonald doll?
Pretty please with sugar on top?
I'll mop!"
~*~
As a teen I could see
that no boy in his right mind
would ever like ME!
My body was different
from the girls on t.v. .
~*~
Now I realize that pleasure can be found
in things big or small.
How much I have materially will not matter
in the end, at all.
I must say though,
as the years slip away
I continue to learn.....
and yet, still, I yearn.....
to have it all.
Now it just doesn't necessarily mean
a trip to the mall.
Author notes
Commercialism or the American Dream.....your call as to which I fell victim too, if there's a difference at all.

sadly TV and commercialism has decided who we should/want to be. Idolizing those so called perfect bodies and faces. But fear not as a guy that seen many a star I can tell you , many are so overated. write on and be happy with yourself and you have been loved.
