busy hands work
their magic.
Gentle snip of scissors
clips the material,
crinkle from a plastic bag
swish of stuffing into fabric.
One leg is done
now the other one,
next comes a...
derriere?!
Soft sound of needle
sliding through cotton
whispering hum
out of delicate lips,
as the crofter keeps crafting.
Eyes meet mine
smiles grace our mouths
hands continue to work,
I am humming too.
Now there is a bust;
one arm is complete
the other is fashioned,
task takes form.
With skilled fingers
a doll is born and
placed carefully in...
my arms!
Wide eyed I hug her close,
cherishing the moment.
Great Grandma Nellie
is still making magic
for other children..
only, now in her Heavenly Home.
Author notes
I chose family, the catagories of 2,5 & 7 (I hope that's ok). Childhood Memories- This is about a sock doll my great grandmother made for me when she was still very healthy. I loved the doll so much and it meant a lot to me that she choose to give me the doll. I still have the doll but Grandma Nellie has gone to be with Jesus, but I know she is watching over me. (I am not sure if I should have done the word "crafter" or "crofter". What do you think?)

Touching and Heartfelt
A beautiful memory of your time with your grandmother! As a child, I imagine this was a time you were thrilled to receive the doll from her but as an adult, I venture to guess you reflect on these times quite differently. The memory now is one of the time spent with your grandmother, not the doll she made. This was a wonderful tribute to her, a dedication of love. Beautifully written!
