Beneath the fires and the molten lava of the earth,
There lies an ancient magical dragon,
A dragon that can resist and breathe fire.
Its scales are black with the redness of flames,
Its eyes are two reddish-orange ambers.
It spreads its wings and flies through the sky,
With the rising and the setting of the sun.
Among the earth’s oceans, seas and rivers,
There lie mystical dragons of old.
They glide in the water and befriend all creatures of the seas
Their scales are sapphire blue and with gills,
Their eyes are of topaz, with a tinge of silver,
And they are called The Water Dragons
Above the earth’s valleys and forests,
In the mountains their lies an earthly dragon.
It bears the powers of nature,
Its friends are the trees and the flowers.
Its scales are of a dark green,
And its eyes are like emeralds tinted with gold.
High above the clouds and the earth
There soars a dragon of myth and legend
Its friends are the birds and all the creatures that roam the sky
Its scales are white and its eyes are sky blue
It circles the sky and helps its creatures.
All these dragons live in peace and harmony
But only the other mythical creatures can see them
And can witness a rare and magical scene
The rising of the Fire Dragon with the sun,
The rising of the Water Dragon with the waves,
The taking off of the Nature Dragon,
The soaring of the Sky Dragon,
And the unity of all four dragons.
All rising and soaring together,
Just like four brothers, as told in a legend.

I'm not much into the fantasy genre so I'm not too familiar with similar poems, but I must say you have a good way with imagery.
It seemed simple as far as the writing style yet you added lots of color and action as well as true to life description. That helped to make it very real and seem almost living.
Very good job! -
Thankyou soooo much!!!!
Its ok lol ... i'm really happy you like both.. you raised myt spirits today! THANKX!!!!

I could see the dragons...feel the fire and feel the exhileration of soaring. Great write. I really enjoyed it.

I actually meant to do the order of description thing.. i prefer doing things in respective order
(i write free verse lol.. not rhyme and i can choose my own words lol)
Thankyou for reading and commenting.. glad you liked it
Nooni -
The description in this is no less than superb, I could visualise the dragons, the movement and the colours. I liked the idea of there being four dragons and four elements, it gave it a sort of spiritual feel, as though the dragons are a part of the world itself. The only criticism I could give for this would be that the flow is a little jerky, some lines don't quite seem to fit in with the others. Also, some stanzas are incredibly similar, the ones that describe the dragons describe them in the same way and same order. These things can easily be changed by rearranging words etc. Thanks for sharing this with us all anyway, I did enjoy it! Take care, Heather x

Well done! Excellent description and imagery! I love the final image of them flying up together. Good job!

Excellent
Nooni...this was a beautiful poem about dragons indeed... you have named the Sacred Dragons and have done such a good job of describing them... the other dragons agree that the sacred dragons are invisible except to those who believe in them and who write about them... from this moment on you are part of the dragon clan...

I love fantasy. Dragons seem like such mystical creatures...evil or good is how they are portrayed. I love how you described the dragons. They sound so beautiful. Write on.
-
i'm speechless to your commentary spamwitch
i really dunno what to say, except thankyou thankyou soooo much -
I promised I would return and so I have, just so you know, I went to your home page to access this so as not to cost you points. The poem itself is written beautifully, I like the way you mixed it up and I like your rhyme scheme. The subject, or more-so the inspirational wisdom as the dragons unite is ultimately my favorite part of this story. I like how you took a mythical creature and gave them soul..how they are able to live in harmony though there are little differences in them. All around wonderful write with a great message.
-
thankyou soo much joy
glad you enjoyed reading my poem... umm i'll do spell check (i did on the word and there wasn't anything) could you please tell me which words didn't seem right??

What a lovely lot of dragons, Nooni, I love the different kinds you've described - really interesting ones too. Your spelling is a little adrift, though. Could you look the poem through again and see if you can change some of the words? I really enjoyed the poem a lot.

good
This is a pretty good poem. I hope you like constructive criticism. In the first stanza, I thought you used the word "fire" to much, and instead of "Nature Dragon" I would suggest "Earth Dragon". It just kinda fits nicer (in my opinion, it's your poem, keep it if you like it). One last thing, try to day things in a way that has never been described before. I like the last two lines in each stanza, because I think you did a good job saying things in different ways here. Anyway, this really is a good poem, I like how you structured it. so ya. there's my critique. Cheers!
Super Mo -
Very Imaginative
Wow, vivid imagination used here Nooni, just got used to picturing one type of dragon and you introduce another.very cleverly written,I enjoyed it very much, please accept my well deserved applaude.Take care Moon Shadow. -

I'm glad you liked my poem... wow a book about dragons? thats gonna Kick!!!
Nooni -
thankyou for your comment
i'm really glad you liked my poem and enjoyed reading it
i'll check on it again for the grammatical mistakes.
Thankx again -
Awesome job of depicting the dragons as things of beauty, which is how I've always pictured them. I personally love dragons (am currently writing a book about them) and I love the way you have posed them in this poem. To me dragons are far more interesting as beautiful creatures than creatures of destruction.
Great job! -
This reads more like a story rather than a poem and there are a few grammatical errors.
Now with that out of the way I'd like to say that I love dragons. Love.
And you did a great job here with your description and lore. Great job!
-
thankyou sooo much Koenigsreich
i really liked your comment and i appreciate it very much
-
I have always been fascinated with dragons of lore, and not necessarily of the way they can destroy in an instant. I love the way you captured their majesty and silent guard of the Earth.
-
thankyou soo much Vera
I really liked your comment and it is highly appreciated... that line "Their scales are sapphire blue and with gills" i know and thought didn't sound very well but i did not know how to rephrase it

ur comments are highly apprectiated -
These appear to be the auspicious dragons of Chinese traditions - not the lone, greedy, treasure-guarding Scandinavian-Germanic ones - Fafnir and his ilk...
To take an image like the dragon, which has such negative connotations in the Anglophone tradition, and treat it from the viewpoint of another tradition in which it has very different and positive connotations, is a very challenging task indeed (in fact, I wrote about this in the preface to my most recent book).
You, however, have managed this very effectively...
There are a few passages which, it seems to me could benefit from a little more work (in particular, I find the line
'Their scales are sapphire blue and with gills,' a little clumsy - grammatically it seems to imply that the SCALES possess gills, which is surely not what you meant!)
Overall, though, you have produced a very positive and evocative piece of writing.
-
This is a great start to something new. I encourage you to keep writing, I can already tell that this will be a great series of writing that will show readers your talent and potential
Take care and keep in touch
Sara
P.S Best Wishes in this contest, I hope you win a trophy!

ok then

I adore old legends,, I apologize, it's late for me or I would leave a long winded critique, in stead I shall applaud your beautiful work and remind myself to return to give a better comment! I did really like this though.
-
Again, a beautifully written piece of work. Well done and I truly enjoy reading your prose!
-
I really liked this. It wasn't clear to me that it was about the elements of the earth till I got down toward the middle. I liked how you used each one with a different description and color and even texture for their domain. I always appreciate a writer who can write fantasy and make it seem real and believable. This was a very well written piece with some nice imagery detailed. I hope you do well in this contest. I am impressed.

Good Day, a stor ♥ -
interesting. you describe the dragons quiet well, but there is a dragon for everything. shadow, fire, water, wind, earth, cloud, ice, rock, nature, forest, etc. there are so many! but nice exzamples of some dragons. pretty.
