As I swallowed my nerves I spoke
‘Why is it that you smoke?’
You replied with ‘Well it’s better than coke’
And for that you are the perfect bloke
You said to me as I walked away
‘You grow more beautiful every day’
I couldn’t find the right words to say
In fear of sounding too cliche
I wonder why you even looked at me
Especially as you said ‘This is very risky’
I didn’t realise that you loved me you see
Just thought that you were being friendly
I said ‘These feelings are wrong’
You said ‘But they’re strong’
I knew they wouldn’t last for long
That’s why I wrote this song
