On Completing da Vinci's "Mona Lisa"

Missing image
On Completing da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”.

In retrospect, I think perhaps that I was rather rude
when I criticized da Vinci for his Mona Lisa’s smile,
so I got to seriously meditating for a while
and decided she’d be much improved if she were painted nude.

Now, the girl-next-door’s a real brick. She has no hesitation,
(when I ask her very courteously) in whipping off her gear.
Stunningly endowed in all respects, well stacked both front and rear,
she’s assured that my portrayals are without false permutation.

So I readied all my brushes and prepared my trusty stand,
then I guided her till she’d assumed a most alluring pose.
Next, I set da Vinci’s picture up, removing Mona’s clothes,
and started in to substitute a little slight-of-hand.

I'd best list my amended Mona portrait as "adult"
but, all things considered, I’m quite satisfied with the result!

Hugh Wyles, January 15th. 2006.

PS: And what is more, if critics look with care at Mona’s dial,
they must agree there’s actually improvement to her smile.

Author notes

I have decided to get out of France and go to Italy where I am told there are a number of questionable 'masterpieces' that deserve my consideration. Keep watching this space!

    It is good to have friends (especially ones that live next door) that are willing to do anything to help a neighbor. My goodness, Mona Lisa may be smiling, but she does look a bit cold to me.

    I love the poem it distracts me from the picture. Damn Hugh! She's quite old to have a bomb-shape like the one you've painted. This is hillarious. I bet you have Da Vinci all hot and bothered in the after-life. GREAT!

    All My LOVE,
    Renee

    OOOOOO Babe, a nude Mona Lisa? Wow! And you had your neighbour pose for it! Knowing how you love Boobs I can see why you chose her. what a nice pair of jugs she has.
    Now I've seen everything, you didn't tell me you were a painter? We will have to visit and see what other goodies you have hidden away. But I did enjoy reading it Babe.
    Love Sally.

    Edna must watch out for that next door girl!
    I don't think that Mona's smile would be noticed in that painting lol
    There are many stories about Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, but don't think I have heard about this one before.
    I'm very curious what will come next!

    Kisses and love from your daughter

    Dear Wil,
    ~~~
    As I've stated before, that nice girl-next-door
    has a body I really admire
    but apart from the painting, much closer acquainting
    would land all my chestnuts in the fire!
    Your "Nutty Nonsense" book was all that it took
    to first bring my rude germs to gestation.
    Your continued support and encouraging thought
    serves to kindle my crude inspiration.
    ~~~
    Without your "spark" all these "Louvre" Poems would never have seen the light of day. Thankyou dear friend.
    Love and hugs, XXX Hugh.

    Dear Maureen,
    Would you believe? The Directors of the Louvre have rejected my painting!! I won't repeat what they said about it.
    Bloody French!! They are sooo RUDE!!
    Glad you liked it. Just shows your superior intelligence!
    Love and hugs, XXX Hugh.

    Dear Jane,
    A more careful reading of my sonnet will make it clear that it is the girl-next-door who is the subject or object of the lower part of this porait. Edna does not subscribe to the practice of corporal punishment (although she does kill flies)
    and she was busy cleaning my brushes and ironing thingummy's undergarments.

    Ohhhhhhhhhh, I thought this WAS Edna! or at least the shapely shape. Edna, I imagine though has to carry a whip to keep hugh away from his harem from time to time.

    Never rude, never crude...you always manage to do it with taste...even with showing nipples the size of dinner plates on Mona Lisa This sure has me giggling once again Hugh! I love these and hope to see more!

    Dear Hugh,
    Well this is a different view of the “Mona Lisa” what a great figure your neighbour has, how did you manage that without Edna finding out? You did a wonderful job of placing Mona Lisa’s face there.
    But I know that you’re under a lot of stress and pain over your Sister being terminally ill, so I can understand why you’re writing humorous poems, it is a way of releasing the stress that you are feeling, it’s like a release of emotions that you need to expel, it’s hard knowing you will lose her. It’s great that you can cope this way. Anyway, I love your Sonnet, I think it’s brilliantly written tastefully with decorum, there is nothing smutty about the painting, it's a great portrait, as I know you would only post them if they had class. She does have some covering over them but it doesn't hide much. I think you’re kidding us that you painted it! Wonderful as always my friend.
    Love and hugs. xxxxxxxxxxx
    Bea.
    Applause.
