Six months since my life has been normal.
Six months since mom was happy,
Six months since Owen lived his life.
Six months…
Since you’ve been alive.
You weren’t supposed to die,
It wasn’t supposed to happen.
You were only eighteen,
Hadn’t even gotten out of high school.
People tell me I act so much like you,
But every time I hear your name I cry.
Mom can’t even walk past your bedroom anymore,
But your bedroom is my only haven,
The only place,
I still feel safe.
You were my older sister Lily,
The person I looked up to.
You were my hero in every way possible,
The person I ran to for everything.
I walk to your grave every day after school,
Talk to you as if you’re still here.
Every time the phone rings,
I expect to see you running down the stairs,
Grabbing it before anybody had a chance.
Counselors tell me I need to let go,
Get on with my life.
But I can’t Lily.
Not without you by my side.
I need my older sister,
I need you back with me.
It’s been six months since I last saw you,
Six months since my life has been normal.
Six months since I’ve uttered the words,
I long to say to you.
Six long and terrible months….
Since I’ve said I love you.

So sorry.
OMG, I'm so sorry for your loss. I had tears in my eyes this is so sad. I can relate in a way. I had 2 older sisters and mother who passed away in a car accident, I'm 13 now and they died 4 years ago. I don't know how your sister passed and I'm so very sorry, I truly am. But I know that there are no words that can truly comfort anyone who has lost there sibling or anyone they love. But you've written this poem very well, filled with a lot of emotion and just wow. I will keep this poem in mind as I decide on the winners for this contest. Once again thank you for entering this into my contest and good luck! I will be around to read and comment more on your poems later so until then take care, bye!

Beautiful...
So sad and tragic.. I am truly sorry for your loss, and I hope all goes well. This poem is wonderful. The love, the longing, the pain... And it's not something I was expecting. Throughout judging this contest, I've read poems of death, but never expected to read of one's love to a dead sibling. Simply beautiful... I wish you the best of luck in the contest and in life.

Wow
this is so sweet. i really liked your poem alot it shows how much you loved your sister. i am sorry that she had to go at such a young age. you did a great job with this piece. so thank you for entering and good luck.
-
This write is very clear on your emotion for your sister and I'm so sorry for you lose, and hopefully soon you will be ok, I know you will never forget her but in time it may become a little easier to except it!!! good luk on a very well written poem!
-
This is a beautufully written poem that was obviously written with a lot of emotion. It is a great tribute to your sister. To be perfectly honest, I could see nothing that could be changed in this poem. It was obviously written directly from the heart.

Good
A Touching poem... There isn't much to say that hasn't been already but, for what it is worth, I am sorry for you. -
oh my god
I almost cried. That never happens...
I am so so sorry... I wish I had words of comfort but I don't. Your sister is absolutely beautiful... I'm so sorry that you lost her. But I'm sure she's in a good place. Maybe she's even watching over you.
I don't know how I could get through something like that. Again... I'm so sorry, but this poem is so powerful. -
W rite ON!
Speechless in the vacuum of loss... to be able to write this is a cathartic prayer to the universe.
May the loss you feel be overcome by the richness you shared...
I felt this very deeply, which is waht good poetry/writing should do.
I Know those feelings too well...good luck on the recovery of your spirit as you deal with this... I did the same in a lot of my writing too...It kept me focused on the BIG picture of the universe... -
I loved your writting . I hope it helped relise some emotions for you. That is A terribly loss. I will keep you in my prayers as with your family.Dont let ppl tell what you r suppose to feel. You will just slowly feel at ease .Somehow someway your sis will let you know its ok baby girl you can let go I will always be in your heart. And you will feel at ease cause you know thats what she would have wanted for you.you are not dishonnoring her by getting on with life.I am sorry this is so winded I lost my mom 2 yrs ago and i still hurt and my dad is still really bad off so everyone takes it in there own TIME. God bless

What a terribly sad poem. Very heart wrenching. I am sorry you have to go through this. Don't force your emotions, they will move on when it is time, just let them take place. Writing a poem is one way of helping the healing to begin. Your sister is beautiful!
It sounds like she was a wonderful big sister to you, and I am sure she carries you with her everywhere that she flutters. Tink

That's really sad, I'm sorry that happened to you and your family, to lose someone so close to your heart is devestating
-
Thank you so much for your comment. Your words mean a lot to me. Lily was killed in April in a tragic car accident on her way home from school.
-
This is a beautiful dedication for your sister. It moved me because I could relate and I know the pain in loosing a sibling, As I lost my younger brother, Alex. It's truly one of the hardest pains to get over and though it has been about 12 years I still havne't been able to let go; It's hard---Hard and constently painful. I have pictures of my brother, Thinking of all he could have been and hating God for ripping him away from me. How did your sister die if you don't mind me asking?
-
Thank you for your comment. Lily was killed in a car accident on her way home from school one day. If you want the entire story, you should check out my story truth. Again, thank you for your comment.

this is a fabulous poem. Is it ok to ask what happened? Im really sorry that you are feeling so sad. I dont thik time does heal. The pain goes on relentlessly
-
woooooooooooooooooooooooooow sooooooooooooooo beautiful!!!!!!!! and full of emotions and strong, powerful sadness and everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love this poem soooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and im really, really sorry for the loss you suffered. im trying to imagining losing my brother right now and i can't without feeling like crying!!!!!!! gosh. im so sorry, if you ever need to talk to someone, im here!!!
-
I think that no one can tell you that six months is time enough to get over anything...deal with things in your own time and way, but by all means make sure you deal with them....I know the emptiness that the loss causes, the gaps in time that you seem to stow away living in your memory because it is more comforting than the present, nice job and good luck...god bless
-

Thank you so much for your kind words. They really mean a lot. There's only three kids in my family, and Lily and I were always really close. I'm glad you liked the poem so much.
-
This poem brought tears to my eyes. I am the only girl out of all 4 kids so i dont know what its like to have a sister but i know i would be just like you if i had. This poem is by far the best i have seen yet, thats in my own thought.
-
OMG this was amazing. And it made me cry. Any poem that can make that kind of emotion is surely amazing. I'm truely sorry for your loss. <3

You were my older sister Lily,

this part seemed the most relateasble to me, and its really asmusing, i have seven siblings.. crazy aren't they?>... lol -
It's seems incomplete. It doesn't lack, it just feels like you've ommited something. I don't pretend to know what it is, but i think you know. It will do the poem justice to add it. Whatever it is that wanted to say to her before she left or something of that nature. I don't know. It is a truely heart-felt poem and it reaches the reader. Much luck in the contest.
-
wow... this is beautiful. i've felt like i was going to lose my sister... and one of my friends did lose hers.. and i can't imagine. i clicked on this one because lily is my favorite name... i bet she was as beautiful. best wishes... stay strong. this is wonderfully written.

This is so sad and emotional. Beautifully sad. I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine losing either one of my sisters.
-
wonderful
Wonderful poem . It must have been so hard to write but you did a fine job ,Take care, good luck and keep writeing -
a very emotional piece of art layed out in front of my eyes. a very beautiful one also. i must admit, i too have lost a sibling, but i was 5, and can't remember. BUT, however, i have lost a lot of other people, my grandfather, the man who was a father to me for three years, and a few others. you learn to move on, but its important you still remember. i believe that its best not to morn, but to smile each time you think of the person.
take care of yourself, and your loved ones.
All my wishes,
Mrs Mini -
This is a really sad poem! I agree with bia, she knew that she was loved and still knows it. Great write and good luck in my contest!
-
This is very nicely written. It really hit me hard, it's very powerful emotionally. I lost one of my best friends since the kindergarten my freshman year of highschool. She was riding with some friends on the way to school when her side of the car was plowed into by an 18-wheeler. She died instantly. I was heartbreaking and I still have trouble accepting it. To me, she's still alive. I have a poem about it called "To Lorrie." Keep up the beautiful work, and best wishes for the contest!

Wow... Emotional to the point of... Well, it's very sad. Really very sad. The ending bit though brought a faint smile to my lips. She knew she was loved and you got to tell her that you love her.
