George Dubya came to be.
Don't count the votes again, you see,
You can trust bureaucracy.
George Dubya's always blameless.
Don't count on votes to change this.
And he can do whatever he may please.
The war on terror's course to stage.
Tap some phones and turn the page.
We don't need more minimum wage.
Katrina victims ain't been paid.
But Dubya's always blameless.
Don't count the votes or change this.
Cuz he can do whatever he may please.
The way to win a war is cheat.
Torture prisoners till they're weak.
Pretend to hear the common man speak.
Executive privilege can't be beat!
Cuz Dubya's always blameless.
Why would you want to change this?
He can do whatever he may please.
And you can take or leave him if you please.

I couldn't resist poking some fun at my states --Golden Boy--
Blatant misuse and butchery of the english language is intended in keeping with the ridiculousness of Texas Politics.

here you can find a zip to the original sung version that I think was used for the movie. It is about halfway down the page.

this link goes directly to a midi of what sounds pretty close to the instumental version used on the tv series.
Suicide is Painless (Mash Theme Song)
(Mike Altman and Johnny Mandel)
Through early morning fog I see
Visions of the things to be,
The pains that are withheld for me,
I realize and I can see...
That suicide is painless,
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.
The game of life is hard to play,
I'm going to loose it anyway,
The loosin' card I'll someday lay;
So this is all I have to say...
That suicide is painless,
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.
The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
And to another give my seat
For that's the only painless feat.
That suicide is painless,
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.
And you can do the same thing if you please.

BRILLIANT!
I loved this piece! It rocked my socks! Ok, well, I loved how you made it go along to the MAS*H Theme Song, Suicide is Painless. I think that that song is a work of art as it is, and dissing Bush in a remake makes it better! This piece was hilarious, can be related to by many an audience member, and just deserves all the applause it can get!

Ooo. Thanks for pointing out the typo. Funny how, no matter how many times you proofread, it is still easy to overlook something. I was looking back through an old poem the other day and noticed a small typo. The funny thing is, I had gotten tons of comments on that particular piece and no one had noticed it and said anything
.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. And you are right. Even in Texas some things actually retain their intended meaning

I REALLY LOVE THIS! Great flow, good points, does go very well along w/ "Suicide is painless".
One small thing: In the fifth stanza: "Their" is supposed to be "They're", even if you are using "texas" usage:
"their" is possessive
and "they're" is a contraction for "they are" -
good
hey there my friend it was nice to hear from you. and that always a good thing in my mind. You know I was in the army and was in and actually evaluted MASH units so this was really our theme song and I loved the movie and series. I like the way the poem read, it was a fun spoof using the old theme, good makrs for that. However, you know we have different viewpoints when it come to these subjects... But, I guess that is actually why we've become fond of another. Having differnt viewpoints I think. Thanks for reading midnight visitor, I didn't mean to have the repeat, I need a full time editor, might take interviews one day..lol sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, I've been fairly ill. good write image -
The words of the original song do seem quite sad and unfunny in the light of depressive dissorders. But don't get too caught up in the song. Unlike many of the other suicide songs out there, this one was purely tongue in cheek and was written specifically for the movie. The words were written by the directors son around a character in the film. There was a polish dentist nicknamed Painless Pole. He was --ummm-- overly endowed, if ya know what I mean and had some problems getting--ahem--dates. One time he was going to get --lucky-- and had some, technical difficulties. He was devastated by the happening and was contemplating suicide. His fellow doctors intervened by pretending they were going to help him by putting him to sleep, but instead made provisions to find him a new girl and --well-- for the sake of not being too crude-- it all worked out
. The song was written specifically for that portion of the story line. That particular character was not carried over into the tv series, but the music was retained in instrumental form without the words.
Many of the fans of the series never knew the name of the song or the lyrics or their origin until much later

Better lyrics.
Well Thistle I always thought the music to the theme song good but since I have had people that dealt with depression issues the words sort of sticks in your throat. Right now I am fed up with politics nationally but will say. Where did the money go for the victims. Into the hands of the local politicos. That is a fact. But the lyrics of yours is better than the origional. I liked the music but you can see where suggesting suicide is painless is not my cup of tea. I get those looks at laughs too. -
I had to retreive my rib from the other side of the room after reading this. I bet the Manic Street Preachers would sing this over the original words any day of the week. I really hope this wins. Excellent write and it helps that I like the song anyway. *applause*

Lol, do you think Wierd Al would be proud?
Thanks for the comments. Glad you got a laugh. And thanks for a great contest, I have been checking some of the entries with my head phones on so as not to disturb others in the house and I am getting looks of concern at all this seemingly innappropriate laughing I am doing

Excellent! this is very well done, and poking fun at georgie boy makes me laugh, as i dont care for the mans politics at all. I have been known to bash him in the past but never as kindly as this. It fits the orinal very well and you kept the end rhyming sound of each line almost always the same as the original.Kudos...peace
