Crow Keeper

In dark earth
green shoots hold
golden silk
    and yellow kernels
Food
fresh for man
later
dried for beast.

In blue sky
fly black crows
who
heckle the wind
and float above
the rolling field
eyeing the corn
before it is ready.

In hard rows
between green shoots
comes clapping man
slapping thighs
and singing songs
remembered from youth
music to those who hear
fear
for those who fly.

Author notes

A crow keeper is a person employed to keep crows out of the corn fields. A practice from long ago but I believe that is what poets are...

What a wonderful analogy. Poets as "crow keepers", or as those who keep alive a very old practice? hmmm. In any case, i liked the vivid description, and your piece flows very well when read aloud. Well done!
