In a bandana and long black skirt I sway in my own mind
I can feel everything getting deeper now
Janis is in the background, and I am connected to the ball and chain that she is singing about.
There is a thick cloud of refreshment around me, the smell of freedom.
Finding new meaning in ancient words
I feel like a philosophical genius
Coming up with every single reason why the Dark Side of the Moon goes perfectly with Wizard of Oz.
It's the man...
I imagine myself at a rally next to Jimmi fighting for the same thing that we used to fight for
Peace
of mind...

this is neat! hah my friend would love it, he's a real hippie. Me, I'm more like 30% hippie. I dig some of the values but not the music, and not the drugs/free love, good way to kill yourself and spread disease if you ask me.
still this is a nice tribute. -
Thank you, I actually just recently found out about the who Paul Mcartney conspiracy. My dad, who is one of the biggest Beatles fans, said that it was all done for publicity, but I love conspiracies so I want to believe that Paul actually died and the one that is around now is a fake, but who knows. Thank you for the kind comments, You are the best AP mom ever

you have drawn the perfect images of the 60's, early 70's and the hippie period so very well in this poem Charna. I love the "swaying in your own mind," it just is perfect as to everything else you have laid out in this poem...
I remember at the time being so inspired by Kahil Gibran's writings--(new meaning in ancient words) and even the hidden messages in the Beatle's Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper albums--(Abbey Road was the very first album I ever bought with my babysitting money back in 8th grade)!
as far as the spelling of bandana/bandanna is concerned, the AP dictionary is down from my end anyway, but checking with dictionary.com, either spelling is correct.
you get my kudos on this write, Charna! you have really captured the essence of the hippie generation in this write!

I thought it was spelled like that, but when I ran it through spell check it said that it was supposed to be with two n's, thanks for pointing that out though and thank you for your comment.

This is seriously good work. You make me not regret allowing pre-writes in this contest. There is only one problem I see with this poem and it is in the first line.
In a bandanna and long black skirt I sway in my own mind
The word is spelled bandana. And to me, if spelling is your only error, then you are in exellent shape.
I imagine myself at a rally next to Jimmy fighting for the same thing that we used to fight for
Peace
of mind...
This is my favorite stanza in the entire poem. I connect to that on a very personal level, because I spend a lot of time at anti-war rallies fighting for peace, but it's true, my mind would be at ease if the war were truly over. So it is a fight for peace of mind. It is very good that I had a very personal connection to this, because that shows that a poet has done an exellent job.
Best of luck to you!
