Sonnet on Manet’s Nude “Olympia”.
Now here’s a real masterpiece that no one can deny.
When you’re strolling through the Louvre, this one hits you in the eye
and yet, when first exhibited, it caused a right old scandal
for the girl is wearing nothing but a black tie and one sandal!
I don’t know how street-girls were dressed in Edouard Manet’s day
but they sure would be arrested now if they went around that way.
Perhaps the coal-black mammy with the flowers in a bunch
will make her get some clothes on just before she goes for lunch?
Or, maybe like his other painting: “Luncheon on the Grass”,
Manet thought that nudes were OK if he didn’t show their arse?.
His picture’s better than da Vinci’s one, in any case
because, you will agree, she has a more appealing face.
It’s manifest that Manet chose superior types of tart,
which proves that taste is all-important when it comes to art.

excellent~
This was a little on humor & I just loved it
Indeed why is she hiding herself in the clothing????
I would have everyone's mouth agape and eyes bulging out if only I wore a necktie and one sandal.....
Guess I could put on my falsies ROFLMAO
This is just too cute da.......and I am like Angelica when are you going to do a sonnet on Marie Antoinette??? That would be an interesting one......as far as this one goes it too is very interesting.....I loved it
Love n hugs

Dear Hugh, Ahhh, the other painting, WOW yes, she is much prettier than the others, but why is she hiding the rest of her? Is she THAT modest? Monet certainly posed his models well, haha, so Linda says it's her in a past life..Wow..not bad. not bad at all!
Fantastic Sonnet Hugh, I'm enjoying these immensly
when's the next one?
Have you done Marie Antoinette yet? I have a friend at Church with that name, she's Egyptian, we introduce her as "Marie Antoinette with the head" If you haven't, maybe you can do a Sonnet for her one day. The one without the head I mean
Hugs & kisses xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh, dear. Yes, I will agree that her face is more appealing but, as abstract dreamer said, who is looking at here face?! Uh huh, that's right. No one.
Iambic heptameter...wow...I still don't understand the heptameter part...does that mean there is 7 feet in each line? And the iambic part means where the emphasis is placed in the different syllables? Or am I completely off? I guess it's back to those notes you gave me!
Lovely write, Hugh. Maybe by reading your sonnets some of your talent will rub off on me.
I hope so, anyways!

Hahahahaha this is funny. You know that mammy will make that chile get dressed. My Lord, laying up there stark naked and all.
What a take on a world masterpiece or so it seems. Um--she does have a plesent face, but who's looking at her face? Not even the maid! Hahahahahaha
Thanks for my laugh for today. I do hope this is in the humorous category. Didn't look before I commented. Great! I am going to get this imabic pentameter thingy some day, I promise. LOL
Much Love,
Renee
