Everybody Loves Raymond

An elder acquaintance told me this story, which happened in 1945 when he was 11-12, long before the TV Sitcom with the same name...

His story:
I was an OK kid, but my cousin Raymond, everybody loved him. My aunts and mother would ask me, "Terence, why can't you be like Raymond?" Well, guess what? Terence began to hate Raymond with a passion!

One day I found out Raymond was allergic to alfafa. There was a lot growing nearby, so I gathered up as much as I could and placed it in the crawlspace under Raymond's bedroom. Raymond came down with such an allergic reaction that I didn't mind him getting all the attention now! They were all saying, "Oh, what's wrong with Raymond?" "Poor Raymond!"

Author notes

Moral of the Story:
You can be hated just because you are good!

As for other cases, it's either a matter of criminal opportunity, or 'teaching the person or society a lesson'. In Raymond's case, it was a personal thing... turning Terence into a monster!

Very interesting take on this contest Wayne. Sad but true some people seem to have it all. Jealousy can do some strange things to people as you have portrayed here in your write. I would tend to agree with my Sister of the Soul here in that one should not be raised up above the other. That happens in some families and sometimes with as you have shown here...tragic results.

Thanks for your take on this. Thanks for entering our contest and Good Luck. Be Well and Be Blessed

Ah but some responsibility lies with the family not comparing one to the other. They opened the gates with that. However children can learn by example so...shrugs This is somewhat entertaining and I wanted to laugh despite the fact that the morale is one the world needs to learn. I say somewhat because lessons are to teach not to entertain but some peple learn better when they can smile while they do it. Thank you for sharing yourself with us and good luck in the contest.

Interesting - althought I didn't understand the ending to be quite honest with you until I read the comment, and then the comments left by other people and all of a sudden it added up - such a simple tale yet containing such an important lesson - i have no idea how you did this so subtely but it worked, it really did! nice job and best of luck.

    Brilliant write!

Oh I got it- the conclusion! Thinking something might happen at the end. Downfall and despair, yet it is the opposite, he got all the attention and love and pity! Geezz, Perhaps it is called a person born to be loved no matter what! Lol .. Bad actions and attentions that made him more lovable.. Ahhh, life! Lol Does that applies to real life too?

ha-ha...an honest story about how each and everyone of us has a little bit of that badness within us , if for no other reason that we are just plain tired of hearing the good of someone else ( even though we have not done bad ourselves ) ermmm...maybe Raymond was just a brown Noser Best wishes in this contest,

scarey that one can feel as desperate to make someone ill or even die from doing something like that . i hope its not an inherited state, for anyone close ot me might be in trouble (mother did that to father )
