The Moth and the Moon

“Once upon a time” – said the first Star;
“Flew a very tiny moth without pair,
his wings, both, have grey shades
and matching images in both sides.”

“Poor moth, poor moth, fell in love”;
continued a new star; “For the light above,
He flew and sighed, praising the Moon
and deep in his soul craved to be her groom.”

“Ah, Moth”, chant all the stars together,
“Why aspiring a love for a lady so higher ?
Many of your kind are close of your reach
but within the endless sky you search ?”

“We are the moon vast bridal dress;
she reigns in the nights with our bless;
while you glance after her own grace;
her shinning only reflects our own face.”

The stars are suddenly silent mourning;
the body of the moth rested unmoving –
besides a lamppost, his wings scorched
and with swiftly wind his spirit departed.

“Oh, poor Moth; such distressed measure;
or a gloomy mistake, we will never be sure –
if the artificial light had his lover’s visage
or the distance caused a fatal rampage.”

“But that is not how it ends; more happened”
- a shooting star with her final dive claimed -
“The lingering spirit hovered in the moon’s orbit
and yelled his fading words revealing his gambit.”

“Before joining with spirits to again be reborn;
I deem to death all my undying scorn;
If a thousand deaths I will have to endure;
a thousand times I shall be enticed by your allure.”

    Very nice

    Very cool. I love the idea of the moth constantly going for the moon and ending up being burnt instead by the lamplight...very unique and well done.

    Wow i love this poem, it is honestly the best i have seen in a long time.
    '“Before joining with spirits to again be reborn;
    I deem to death all my undying scorn;
    If a thousand deaths I will have to endure;
    a thousand times I shall be enticed by your allure.” '

    This last verse really does hit home and brings a brilliant end to this poem.
    Good luck in the contest

    Loving someone who has a higher station in life can be very difficult. You did a good job in representing this in your poem. Well done!
