Aurora

Missing image
The clouds were gilded gold above the sun
then mellowed out into the pinkest flame
a slender line did blaze atop each one
and acted as a luminescent frame

The darkest gray still covered well the light
and only round the edges morning glowed
But as the sun rose higher in her flight
more color to the picture was bestowed

Quite suddenly the atmosphere was stroked
by amber rays reflected off the sea
it hit the nimbus knolls and saffron soaked
the sky above the darker clouds with glee

an aura danced across the sprightly swells
that caught the shades of salmon from our star
We watched in awe as sunbeams cast their spells
and rained down on the ocean from afar

God’s fingers reached right down to calm the waves
as they, caressed the beach we stood upon
For moments you and I were willing slaves
enchanted by the stunning birth of dawn

Author notes

I haven't slept all night so if this sucks, blame it on me having hallucinations.  LOL  I wrote this about a sunrise Joe and I watched on the beach a few weeks ago when we were in Florida.  It was the most beautiful sunrise I’ve ever seen.  Most likely the most beautiful I will ever see.  We had 3 cameras with us on the trip, and I forgot to take one that morning.  I did run up to the hotel room and get the camera in time to take a few beautiful pictures, but not the best ones, they will have to live in my memory.  I can’t paint so this was my attempt to pay homage to the vision of that sunrise.  Trust me I didn’t do it justice.  The picture is one I pieced together and then edited after searching thousands online to find something that came even close to the one I viewed.  I had trouble even finding one that had “God’s fingers” (the vivid rays of light that sometimes shine from behind the clouds) let alone one that had clouds that the sun reflected off of so brightly that top edges glowed like embers.  I just love cut and paste, to give you what you need don’t you?  I hope you like my humble attempt to  honor God’s work.  Patti

Even without your comments I knew this was about a sunrise. It is very beautiful. The rhyme is very well done. It doesn't overpower the poem itself. The format, font and background also add to it. It is very beautiful as well as the picture. Good job!

I know the sunrise might have been fantastic, but so is your poem. What a wonderful work; and rhyming too: that is not easy, and it is NOT forced in your work but pure talent!
In my part of the country (the high plains) it's not the sunrises, but the sunsets, that are on occasion: fantastic.
I wish you all the best in your poetic endeavors.
