The Hat

Sitting in the lounge of my parents with my dad one Sunday night!
Asking the usual questions about Christmas presents and to my delight
This time he answered with something that he wanted I was astounded
Everyone was silent, I was completely & utterly dumfounded

Usually was the same year upon year your answer ‘oh I don’t know’
So you told me what you wanted I went away with my face aglow
Now in the UK as you may know it doesn’t get terribly cold
But my dad is getting on a bit starting now to creep towards being old

So I went away wondering where to find this very wanted ‘Russian Cossack hat’
Asked around all of the shops in Plymouth no one had it was turned down flat
Then I started chatting to a friend on line wondering how to get my hands on one
Not to cold in Plymouth, rarely have snow this was proving to be fun!

Then a mate suggested after laughing about my dilemma ‘why don’t you try online’
So I logged on found what I was looking for and it all turned out fine
I received a box, which I lovingly wrapped neatly and placed under my tree
And wrote a nice label on it ‘To Dad Happy Christmas lots of love Me’

So on Christmas day I gave you my present and I felt so proud
As you told every one this is what you had wanted for ages out loud
Walking around my sisters house in your Russian hat with a smile so wide
Watching you with my daughter laughing I felt full of pride

That I had managed to get you a gift that you would treasure
And how a daft looking hat is something you would bring you pleasure
So on Boxing Day after a drink or two you were slightly worse for wear
You told me it was the best present you had ever had and how much you cared

So if you are around this way and you a man with a furry Russian Hat on his head
Just smile to yourself and think it’s the chap in the poem I read!
Him and His daughter had something very special that day
A look, a smile and a huge cuddle much more then any words could say!
