When I'm gone

Though my thoughts and feelings live,
My body and soul must depart.
I have gave what’s left to give,
But keep me within your heart.

Don’t suffer for the loss of me,
Embrace the love you’ve known.
Hold me close to set you free,
And know my soul has flown.

I’ve cried so many bitter tears,
Laughed within the pain,
Faced some of my worst fears,
Endured throughout the strain.

And I’ve lived a life so full
Emerged with hidden strength
Given into mysteries pull,
Never loved at arms length.

Keep me safe within your heart,
And please forever know
We’ll never be too far apart.
Love me, but let me go…

Author notes

I wrote this and while I was browsing came across this other poem... I found it quite bizzare... LOL

Its a really good poem tho check it out... I also found some people with it on their page on AP after I wrote it too.

The reason this came to me was because of a saying someone said to me, "I'll love ya and leave ya" and then the poem just came... anyways

"Never loved at arms length." Can I tell you that i absolutely LOVE that line. I have always tried to not do that, yet i fear, i may have done that more often than not, anyway...ahhhh...love is a slippery slope, indeed!

I have missed you, my friend. I would love to see something new on your page. Pretty please

Wonderful poem. I guess we've all felt this way at some time in our lives. You put it so beautifully. I've been in this situation, I let my bf go off to war...then a coulpe of years later he came back into my life... we married, and we've been together almost 13 years. So sometimes when we let them go they come back to us to stay. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful poem with all of us. ttyl Tali

thankyou so much for that comment. i always think it's worth writing if you can touch even one reader's heart and although it's not a happy poem to me, being the 17 year old ammature that i am, it serves it's purpose. as for this poem it does the exact same thing. your words really draw me in to your thoughts and the last stanza:

"Keep me safe within your heart,
    And please forever know
We’ll never be too far apart.
Love me, but let me go…"

well it's just simply beautiful. sometimes to love someone you have tolet them go for their own good, i know that now and it only comes from painful experiences. you have a lovely way of writing and your feelings just pour onto the page. wonderful i loved it!

    lots of love

Powerful! Hits hard here. Have had to let so many people go, but they live in my heart forever. Beautiful, touching, and thought-provoking. Well done, my friend! Just know you will always be in my heart, always loved and cherished . . . but, I'm not letting you go! LOL! Sweet soul you are! Love to you, Girl!--Kel

Love it... Excellent write. Stirs many emotions in me, especially today. Sigh~~~
"Think of Laura..." song, I remember that as a song on General Hospital. There was Luke and Laura and Laura was gone. Very sad. Reminds me of my Grandma, she watched General Hospital.
Many blessings and *8stomps to you...

    I love it, Natty Nat...

It kind of reminds me of this song i heard a long time ago...and often thought would be nice at my funeral services...lol...because it is so "me"

"...Think of Laura but laugh don't cry
I know she'd want it that way
When you think of Laura laugh don't cry
I know she'd want it that way

A friend of a friend, a friend till the end
That's the kind of girl she was..."

here's the link to the rest if you're interested...really pretty song...

Reading this after a recent death in my family is actually quite comforting. I'm glad that person said what they said to you to make this come out. Nicely done, lady
