Voice of Reason(Treason)

Will you be the voice of reason,
To my irreconcilable differences?
Or will you be the voice of treason,
To the simple thing that I was?
Whispering words of encouragement or shame
Was it you, or me to blame?

Like sand through an hour glass
Or water over rock
Everything slips and wears away
A subtle passing of night into day
And the mind games weave,
A labyrinth of mistrust in eyes
But who can see through the disguise?

Life in a bell jar, goldfish under waves
Silk from a well worn cocoon
Wearing away to reveal something
That was never meant for the light of day
A little monster uncontrollable
Rearing ugly head and frightening
Myself and everyone near

Dust settles, but path unclear
No comforting hand could quench
This irrational fear
And I ask again,
Will you be the voice of reason
To my irreconcilable differences
Or the voice of treason,
To the simple thing that I was?

I'm sure it will be interpreted differently by differnt souls.
Sometimes the muse surprises ourselves and we say WOW I wrote that? I think this is a WOW

I'm surprised, honestly, at how much this poem fits my contest parametres, especially if you weren't originally sure what this was about!

However, it is a beautiful piece, and I find myself drawn to the conflict easily crawling through the lines. I absolutely adore it.

Thank you, very much, for entering my contest!

Yet another work I loved...I love how you give this sense of definite purpose yet really it's left to interpretation as to how it could be either reason or treason....

Will you be the voice of reason,
    To my irreconcilable differences?
Or will you be the voice of treason,
To the simple thing that I was?
Whispering words of encouragement or shame
Was it you, or me to blame?

Makes me think of whether it's external or internal...split personality as opposed to nagging person

I like how you explore whether it's treason or reason. Nice job. Just sat here for a long time reading and re-reading. Powerful message.

I quite enjoyed (I should say, grabbed by the short and curlies) by the third verse. It was well established, and the imagery was cool, flowing and originally crafted. This is the second poem I've ever seen in which the words "gold fish" and "bell jar" are used. A wonderful collective stream of words conveying consciousness. Good Job!
