Come home each day
Since you’ve been gone
Lights were off
House wasn’t warm
Stillness pervades
Shut my eyes to see your light
Memory serves
But not for the night
Sleep to dream
Hope in vain
To see us there
But dreams evade
Sit in Silence
This is now my life
Praying for the day
When you'll return to stay.
Author notes
This poem is for the hardiest soldiers in the military, the wives. We have the most difficult job of holding it together and being strong and learning to cultivate the patience of Job. We wait and pray, willing our men home.
