Nothing We Can Do Now

He confessed it to me,
about all the evils,
and how it's too late to run.

I recoiled in tears of terror,
and I remember it well,
hugging the floor as the world around me spun.

I can't eat,
nor can I sleep.
I can't talk about it.
When he brought up HIV,
my world seemed to come undone.
