Still Hurting (Cento Triolet)

Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal?
The criss-cross markings on your arms and legs?
I hear you say you don't know how to deal.
Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal?
Some times, it's the only way you know to feel.
So many times, you can't help but disobey.
Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal?
The criss-cross markings on arms and legs?

Author notes

The first line of this triolet is taken from Daniel by Elton John.  It is dedicated to the many of you who suffer with a self-injurious behavior.  I hope one day you will be able to ask for the help you need.  Until that time, know that you are not alone, and your behavior does not define you.

    Inspiring

I have no idea how to write a Triolet or what the format is but I do know that this poem is powerful and has a great message. Who would have thought that a line from Elton John would be used to cove such a dark subject. It's short, descriptive and is a great read. Thanks for sharing it.

sometimes it takes very little words to convey exactly what it is we want the reader to feel. I found this poem disturbing in all the right places. it really makes you stop and think about pain and how people deal with it in many different ways. I hope your holiday is going well. best of wishes to you and yours. season's greatings. peace.

Excellent form on the triolet, and incorporating Sir Elton is deserving of an applause I regret to have given away. It is very generous of you to write something for a million lost souls that you do not know. To understand them and reach out to them and even connect with them is much more likely a richer act from a stranger than any they've recieved from a person who believes they love them
