But That's Not All...

But That's Not All...

Sickness and death
Fill the already putrid air;
Unclean water
Spreads further disease-
But that's not all...

Rape me, beat me,
Tell me I don't exist.
Only in my own mind
Do I deserve any better.
But that's not all...

The disdain for human life
As they pillage through the camps
And rape our women and babies-
As if they were pieces of meat.
But that's not all...

And the governments of the world
Leave us to our own demise-
Making appearances for a camera's sake
But leave us as we are-in deep despair.
But that's not all...

Rape me, beat me;
Tell me I don't exist
That my baby doesn't matter
To the world outside of my mind
Is that all?

    I will be judging the contest tomorrow, but I would like to ask permission to share this poem with an online publication called the Zimbabwe Situation. They would like to print it in the newsletter with your copyright of course.

    I went to the sites to see what they were all about. I've seen enough of it on the news, but this was really hard to write. Knowing that this is what goes on is difficult to understand. Thank you for your kind comment. Hugs, Patricia

    You've actually been to some of these sites? Wow, that is impressive.
    Such a fine poem regarding this issue, spoken from such a perspective. I find it immensely saddening that such things still exist on our planet. We have made so many strides in so many areas, and yet remain such a primitive race of beings.
    Powerful poem, pattyann.

    Thank you, Annastacia. Yes, I visited the sites. They are more disturbing than I thought they would be, but they do raise social consciousness to the problem. These sites are very worthy of passing along. I do hope you receive many good entries for your contest. Hugs, Patricia
