Haunted Shores

Walking barefoot in the sand,
Watching waves devouring
My footprints, never satisfied,
The Ocean is hungry for me,
For me.

Seagulls calling in the skies,
Playing the music of the Sea.
Souls crying for those left behind,
Lost in the cruel graveyard of
The Sea.

Salt water swallows the land,
Ever hungering for more,
Rhythmical, washing the shore
Till none is left but Sea
And Sky.

Walking barefoot in the sand,
Watching waves devouring
All, slow and sure and steady,
Till none is left but Sky
And Sea.

Very profound when you think of it in terms of the tsunami. And here we go again with the cyclone in Myanmar, with over 100,000 dead by some accounts. Humans on the earth are like fleas on a dog. All the dog needs to do is twitch and thousands die. Life is a fragile thing. This is a stirring tribute.

I see this was posted in 2005. Where have you been? Hope you're doing well.

quite well written. I like the reference to only the sea and sky remaining finally... tsunami was a very tragic incident. reminds me of one of the haiku i wrote on the occasion... am taking the liberty to share it with u:

    on the tsunami
    a girl, and below,
    her sand castle...

    Beautiful tribute.
It was terrible what happened to the victims of the tsunami, all natural disasters for that matter.
It is a great ribute and an amazing heartfelt sentiment for you to dedicate your time in order to create such a wonderful piece.

    Definitely haunting-

The Ocean is hungry for me,
    For me.

I like these lines, you have made the ocean seem menacing.
    Good write, very sad

A good write. I like the repetitive notion of the sea devouring the shore and its inevitability and power. Good luck in the challenge. ~Jim

I loved this piece...as i love the sea and being down on the shore...makes me think of the timelessness of nature and that by comparison we are but a blink.

    Kudos to you my friend!!!!!

Navdeep, This is a phenominal piece from you my friend. It swept over me like a wave carrying me to the shore so that I may land and find peace within your words. It has been a year and those haunting memories still remain. Mother nature in all her fury taking countless numbers of lives and destroying so much. Still at other times can be as beautiful as this poem you just wrote. I do love the ocean and you made her appear so calm after that cruelty that was dealt by her blow. This flowed so rhythmically. It's so great to see your muse has returned, I look forward to more from you. I don't know if you ever saw the movie, The Perfect Storm with George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg. It is a great one to see. Thank you so much for sharing this lovely work of art with all of us, it is a masterpiece for certain.
Best wishes in the contest and keep writing. I'll be looking. You know you get a standing ovation to go along with my applause here. Love and blessings for you my friend, today and always.

Thanks a lot for the comment and the applause. I think the beach almost always makes people feel calm...except when the sea turns violent, like it did, last year.
    Thanks again.
