Twas the day before Christmas and all through the house
The cats were a romping without benefit of mouse
The garland hangs crooked on the bottom of the tree
Where cat paws have pulled it in their Christmas glee
The catnip lies sprinkled on scratcher and post
But cats in their playtime love that darn tree most
Squirtings of water, yells from our lips
Can only deter them before the tree tips
Away in the manger, nativity scene
Sleeps one little fur-ball in grass that's not green.
They cannot be thwarted in this time of year
Metal tinsel must be place high or they'll eat it I fear.
Now we love our kitties and we love our old tree
But the sight of it wires them for damage, you see.
On Tabbers, and Molly and Joe boy and Sam
To the top of the mantle and over the lamp.
Romping through Christmas is ever their treat
While fear of a topple each morning we great
But the lights are a twinkling, there's joy in our hearts
While the tree stands a bit haggard, but enjoying its part.

This is great. I saw the link in a Sisterhood of Cats thread and I clicked it thinking it would be a plain christmas poem but it's all about cats. I love it. It gave it a fun twist which made it even more enjoyable to read. This is great. Keep up the wonderful work.
Love always

LMAO! gosh, this was hillarious. Probably because I can relate to it so well. We have 12 dogs, so a christmas tree is impossible. Basically, they knock it over playing in the house.
I loved this write... cute, funny with a cocky, bouncy rhyme.
great work!

I must have very weird cats. They never once messed with the tree. Although I can relate to coming downstairs when Sid was a kitten and finding him sleeping on baby Jesus. Mostly mine just teeter on the edge of the goldfish fountain behind the tree. I keep telling the Dude that we are going to have a wet cat in bed some night, if Cetera ever falls in. LOL
This poem is priceless. It matters not if it is cats or kids. And, the fifteen-year-old is as hard to keep out as the five-year-old. I wanted to see how your "Christmas" poem sat next to mine. And, it sits very well. You have done a good job. An extra article here and there would not upset your rhythm, but all-in-all, a job well done.
Thank you for sharing. (An check out "The Morning Of Christmas. Being from Texas, I think you may appreciate it.) -

Lovely poem!
This is beautiful, well written, wonderful rhymes and a poem written with so much joy! I can see the whole scene in a loving and warm house with the tree and the cats!
Good work, sister!
Merry Christmas to you!

This is very cute! I used to have seven cats, and that made Christmas a nightmare! We couldn't have tinsel, because we had a cat swallow some and had to take him to the vet. It can be quite hectic, but it;s still pretty cute watching them play around in the tree. Great work!

LOLLLLLL!!!! Had cats and done that, boy could relate. The cursing, pursing of lips, Oh, too late! So, sit back and watch the frolick with glee, the cats are forever, but not the tree! Love it and your light, goofy humor, in truth we are a match...
