Uncle Pete December 3 2005 RIP 84th year
A man built of stone
Elemental to the course of living
A monument to my time
With a grip vice like steel
Uncle Pete was a favorite of mine
Aunty Flo too
Both helped mould who I am
Infectious was the smile and grin
Never far from sight or whim
The farm is a place of memory
A precious cosm that I shared in
My youth was made a wondrous thing
Every trip
I couldnt wait
To see the guys; my favorite cousins
Uncle Pete yells shut the bloody gate!
Get in behind! you bloody black devil !
Youll never know ho much it meant
To this day I still remember
My mums big brother heaven sent
The gentle touch of lifes decisions
Uncle Pete could make the choices,
Whether making sure we had steak for diner
Or succoring lambs crying voices
And waking me, to see the All Blacks
Just to loose in South Africa
Snuggled tight between
Watching the wee black and white screen
Just another of the long days stuff
Thanks for sharing with me
Just one small boy
So much you it cant be shown
Youll be with me, in life forever
In my stories and in my home
So forever forth
As past I talk
We all see same things different
I see a man, a force of nature
Gone back to whence he came
Time to tend, to pastures flocks
Uncle Pete groans.. not bloody again!
