That look, it surely says it all
as ears perk erect atop his pointed head.
He looks to me, for I give him power
his eyes of fire are begging me to run.
That muscle, as his body tenses
he knows that time is slowly counting down.
He's ready to go, but not because I force him
it's his heart that has him so eager on this day.
All the others with their sleek coats and pointed noses
look at him as if he weren't as willing as they are.
I see him look, sizing up his competition
and if he could speak, I know exactly what he'd say.
I pat his side, to give him my confirmation
I don't mind that he's different, not in any way.
He's worked hard, to prepare him self for the present
we both know he's a long shot in a trial such as this.
The time has come, and I bring him to the line
remove his leash and let it fall down by his side.
I let go of his collar, and as he looks up to me
the stopwatch begins and we take off in a run.
Now it is up to me, but only of course to lead him
for the obstacles themselves he must chose to run.
He knows when to jump, he likes doing that the most
and the tunnels never scare him, not in the least.
If he had a chose, he'd say it would be the cat walk
the height above the ground was never his favorite task.
Today though he nailed it, and didn't jump down to soon
he even remembered to wait on the table until my cue.
We when finished, I swear that dog did laugh
as if he had proved to himself that he had the heart.
If he could point a paw, he surely would do it
as he showed all the non-believers that he could.
You see my friend, he has what they call an imperfection
and accident did leave him, with only three good legs.
Many told me directly, that he'd never compete again
but that little dog sure showed them the heart he has today.

omgsh I got goose bumps all over when I read the last stanza. Thats amazing. There is nothing like an animal that puts it's heart and soul into somthing.

WOW! FANTASTIC STORY
It is most often the down and disabled that come back and prove they can do everything they used to, people and animals too, I have seen often myself.
Once again, great story.

Aww, this was a sweet poem for your dog. Animals can be such amazing friends and companions, they all have their own distinct personalities, no matter what anyone who says different tries to tell me. I have the hurtinest cat going, but I still love her cause she's such a character. She's a very fat calico manx cat who broke her leg, and rather than do the surgery, ( we were told that the surgery would hurt her more than help) we let her live with it, so she hobbles around, but she's happy as anything. They don't know there's something wrong, so why tell them when they're happy? Loved this poem, keep it up, muchas amor, Amanda

This is so awesome!!!!! I have a three legged poodle that doesnt even know he has three legs. He acts just like he has always. I loved this piece so much. It reached home because I am always having to proove that my dog is just as good as the other dogs in the show ring. Agility is an awesome sport anyways, but you topped it with the last stanza. Nice work!
