The Anaconda (Triolet)

~:~X~:~

Far down the winding Amazon,
The Anaconda loves to play;
He finds a bed to coil upon
Far down the winding Amazon.

With lightning kiss, he latches on
And soon asphyxiates his prey.
Far down the winding Amazon,
The Anaconda loves to play.

Author notes

This isn't one of my usual poem topics, but I was in the mood to write something different.

    Call me a strange little bird... I hate slimy things, and bugs... But, give me a snake, and I'm happy! (If it's dry, anyway!)

    I also like that word "asphyxiate"... There's something poetic in the mere spelling and rhythm of it- just had to use it!

    Wow. A wonderful Triolet, and truly exotic and different. I love this piece with its eerie feel. I could almost hear jungle noises, cruising down the amazon. So very creative. ~Pam

    That first line "far down the winding Amazon" grabbed me. I'm a big fan of exotic adventure/travel novels (Richard Halliburton's, in particular), and it doesn't get much more exotic than the Amazon.

    As far as the anaconda loving to play, I don't think his prey enjoy the game very much, unless having their eyeballs squeezed out is their idea of fun. haha

    Good one!
