It’s a relationship not at all balanced,
this loving between me and you,
for this is a love that scares me,
I’m always afraid of what you might do.
And though at the moment we’re passionate,
in time, surely this love will fall,
for this is a love without trust,
which isn’t really a love at all.
The terror that’s lurking within me
is slowly destroying my soul,
for this is a love filled with danger -
the danger that you’ll lose control.
That nagging fear that I’m not safe with you
shall never be fully at peace…
for this is a love that leaves bruises,
and the hurting shall never quite cease.

Good description of an abused loves feelings
You are right it is awful for someone to love someone so much they give up their safety. I sometimes wonder if they have such low self esteem they think they can not live without the abuser. It is hard to understand if you have never been in that position.

I love that she loves him enough to stay with him.. even though she's scared and knows that the passion can not last. You portrayed that wonderfully in your poem, and I'm sorry that this is a real life situation for your mother.

This almost reminds me of a past relationship I was stuck in, until I finally got fed up enough with him. It is indeed sad how people would do anything for someone they love, even that. Nice write you have here. Thanks for entering, and good luck.
