lavender leaves and cherries

lavender leaves and cherries
she spoke in the darkness of the bed
after sex

jumping sheep with black feet
and children who are empty vessels
the catholics are right to baptize,
empty as the dream of a man who can't act
as symbols that ring cracked
and split down the middle.

solid and in the splendor of
marshy ponds and palm fronds
long lost- often exhausted
by the tears of torn time.

pass the water.
pass the lavender leaves and cherries.
