Tunnels

Strike the match,
To light your path,
Into the dark pathways,
Of tunnels so far below.

Care not,
When the cries reach your ears,
Ignore the pain around you,
Walk on.

A glow in the night,
Surrounded by whispers,
Of terror so great,
Be not wary of them.

Slowly, lead on,
Shining ever steadily,
Keep the way clear,
Or be lost in the deep.

Forever you may run,
Away from the screams,
Errant always,
But the way is clear.

Never lose hope,
Or night encloses upon you,
So gently, so quietly,
A fond embrace.

Author notes

I've just been replaying this song, over and over again...And maybe it was not that that gave me the semi-inspiration here, but rather the need to simply write something. And while it may be completely unoriginal, it's a start from my quiet end...
