I saw you in my dream last night
All I could do was stare
The emptiness that was in your eyes
So cold and bitter there
I knew I was dreaming but I wouldn't wake up
I needed to know the truth
We both have drifted so far away
From the first love of our youth
It's been so long since I saw your face
And I tried to hold back tears
I've held on to hope after all this time
I still love you after all these years.
Yet in this dream I watch you
With someone else on your arm
You see me but you just walk on by
I guess I have lost my charm
It hurts because I trusted in you
When you said you would mend my heart
But I'm still here more broken than ever
Too broken for a new start
The pain that runs right through my chest
Will kill me one day I know
And yes I should hate you for all that you've done
But I can't, and I still love you so.
You walk to the door, escort her in
Then turn to look at me
You said, "Ive given you this dream for a reason
I need to set you free.
You know I still love you, I always will
When I left a part of me died
But Im no longer free to come back to you
So my love I have to hide.
You dont know how much it breaks my heart
To see the tears on your cheek
I too only take it one day at a time
My future without you is bleek
But I cannot be the reason you cry
And so I have come to you now
To tell you I love you but Im letting go
You have to do the same somehow.
I will act like Ive lost my memory of you
But at night I will dream of your touch
The way that you kiss me, the way that you smile
Oh god, I miss you so much.
But missing you doesnt help me in life
It only proves my point to be true
So love me forever but please move on
And I'll do the same for you"
As he walked away, I couldn't say a word
But I wanted to scream out his name
To tell him I hate him, he lied and it's wrong
But my screaming would've been in vain
If he really loves me then where is he now
And why i am the only one here
Standing alone with this pain in my chest
As shown by my broken tear
And then I realise I am all alone
I'm falling apart at the seams
It's sad that I can't even get him to love me
In my own make believe dreams

I've read longer poems. I like the rhyming in this. I'm not a fan of love poetry though, but I have read some pretty good ones in this contest. This, I have to say, is one of them. Good luck.

beautifully painful read
this is a beautifully written poem of pain full of emotional heartbreak that i can feel in my own heart. in most poems that i read there is line or stanza that stands out to me most and in this one it would be,

haunting
This was a painful and haunting write that tugged at the heart
and stirred the soul. Love is very hurting sometimes and this
appeared to be theraputic. A way of letting go of someone you
loved that's no longer there. Time heals all wounds and in time
"this too shall past!" Excellent writing! Peace and blessings!

This was so passionate and so great. This was very inspirational. This was definately worth featuring and I am very happy I clicked on this. This was not a waste of my time.
