Daughter Mine

Daughter Mine  ~ acrostic

Ev'ryone should have a daughter like mine,
Simply sweet, loving and kind;
This world's a far better place that she's here:
A sweet blessing quick to tears.

Many are the days she cares for others,
And this includes her mother;
Right there when Mom fell to her knees in pain,
Ill from Satan's wicked game.
And, although her mother was facing Death,

Hope and prayers were on her breath,
Admitting only courage to God's Will;

Love keeping her calm and still.
Lift and praise this angel daughter of mine!

Author notes

*My daughter, Maria, lives in Oregon; and, as soon as she received word that I'd been hospitalized with a brain aneurysm, she was on her way to Washington. The first thing she did was to stand up courageously to the doctor, "Don't sugarcoat anything. I want ALL the facts, no matter how bad you might think they are." You can rest assured that, with this lion staring him in the face, my neurosurgeon didn't pull one punch. Yet, Maria is the tenderest hearted person, a certified caregiver in Oregon; so, I couldn't imagine anyone other than her taking care of me when I arrived back home. All of her patients say the same thing, "I don't want anyone taking care of me except Maria!" I echo their words. So, please help me lift up and praise my daughter!*

    Congratulation, Sis, on your win of the bronze. Your poem deserved the gold, in my opinion, but I won't argue with the judge. Hugs, Patricia

    Maria is indeed her mother's child. You and she are both fortunate to have each other, and I know that she took such good care of you in your illness. To her I owe my own gratitude that my dear friend was so well cared for. She has a loving heart and a gentle soul. You are blessed. Love and Hugs, Patricia

    A touching piece.

    I agree and well I had the occasion to help a dear friend of mine chaplain who went through the same surgery and radiation for cancer. She had been there for me and well I was just glad that I could help. You are lucky most caregivers know that sometimes the family does not do for them and it is sad. It is a true pleasure to know you have this kind of daughter.

    What a gorgeous acrostic tribute to indeed an angel of a daughter and care giver to others! What a blessed gift from God to have such a treasure! I hope she gets to read this, as your deep love and gratitude shines through with heavenly brilliance! I am sure she feels every bit the same about her angel of a mother too! What a lovely, lovely write Bonnie!!

    Your poetry is open and free. It describes and it communicates your appreciation very well. I hope that you continue to write about all kinds of things. Your faith has given me the feeling that you will survive this.

    I almost cried when I read your poem, but couldn't help it when I read your author comments. I get that kind of praise from my father currently whom I am caregiver, and mom died two years ago from Cancer!! Thing is, I bet if you asked your daughter, she feels exactly the same way about you!

    Indeed, Maria is her mother's daughter her byline, "Just gimme the facts!" There is but one thing I wish I had NOT done, and that was keeping Maria in the dark the five days I lay on my sofa before hospitalized. Bless her heart, I was telling her I was getting better. It really wasn't fair to set her up to be blindsided when she got the call; not that she's ever said a word about it. Nevertheless, I've promised her that will never happen again, Lord willing I'm able to keep her better informed.

    Thank you so much, dearest one, for helping me to lift up Maria and sing her praises! I am so undeserving a mother to have been blessed with a daughter such as her.

    Lots of love and hugs, B♥nnieQ

    You are so blessed to have her for a daughter, but I guess I didn't need to tell you-but I'll just confirm it for ya! We never think our kids will have to care for us and your's came through proud and strong for you. She even sounds a bit stubborn-wonder where that comes from???? Wonderful tribute from a wonderful Mom to an equally deserving daughter. Best wishes in the contest!~vj
